Paul Tillman

Paul Tillman, 63, of Cedar Rapids, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 4, 2020, at home. A Going Home Service has taken place. Survivors include his children, Dijuane 'DJ' Townsend (Hannah Karasek), Kumasean Lee, and Marnetta Tillman (Resean Patterson); seven grandchildren; siblings, Raemona (Marcus 'Pops') Johnson, Mark Doolin, and Stephanie Tillman (Dano Phillips); former spouse, Karna; a host of nieces and nephews; many extended family members; and beloved dogs, Moonshine, Girlie, and Baby Girl. Paul Arthur Tillman was born January 15, 1957, to Paul and Bernice (Akers) Tillman in Chicago, Illinois. Paul served 7 years in the Army traveling all over the world from Georgia, Arizona, and even Germany. Paul's love for family, music, and God lead Paul and his friends and family to form a gospel group named Psalms. Psalms proudly carried on the family tradition of spreading the gospel through music. Paul was a phenomenal cook, especially famous for his homemade macaroni and cheese, ribs, and smoked wings. Paul was proud of his culinary skills and would gladly offer up a plate and maybe a bit of advice. PT, Tilly, or 'Alfie' as his sister Raemona called him loved the outdoors and was avid fisherman and hunter. Paul left a mark on all he touched, which was exemplified by how Paul diligently and lovingly cared for Gail Maddox, his partner of 18 years, during her battle with cancer. Whether it was a small morsel of advice which later came in heady or just detailed Tilly instructions which you had to follow to the letter, Paul left a mark on many. One of his special talents included picking the perfect greeting card, even if it took 45 minutes in the card aisle. He was preceded in death by his parents Paul & Bernice Tillman; brother, Kenneth; sister, Nesbeth Reynolds; and partner, Gail Maddox.
