He attended Maquoketa Valley High School in Delhi until leaving to join the Army in 1967, serving in Vietnam. He worked as a mechanic: for the Army, at his dad's service station, and later owned his own station; he was always tinkering in the garage. He married Ellen Dougherty on December 28, 1985. They enjoyed traveling, going to the casino, and playing cards. Shorty was a smart aleck and always quick with a witty comment. He was an avid NASCAR fan, and loved spending time with family. He truly had a good heart and will be missed greatly.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ellen; granddaughter, Sarah; and niece, Sheila.
