Melba Jean Bostwick, 94, of Mount Vernon, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at the Hospice House, Hiawatha, Iowa. Per Jean's wishes, no services will be held. Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Mount Vernon is assisting the family.
Jean was born on June 12, 1930, in Trenton, Missouri, the daughter of Luther and Edith (Sullivan) McCartt.
Jean enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, and boating on the Mississippi.
Jean is survived by her children, Michael (Yukari) Bostwick, Kerry Ann Bostwick, and Rick Bostwick; grandchildren, Dennis (Leslie) Bostwick and Christopher (Cathy George) Bostwick; and great-grandchildren, Clair, Harrison, Georgia, and Alvin.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.

My name is Glenn Hughes I live in Eldon Iowa
I ve known Jean (Melba) when she lived and went to school in Eldon her brothers Dick & Mike
Mike was a little older than me but we were the best of friends as was my Mother Helen Hughes
& their Mother Pearl
Our families shared many occasions & outings
together. Dick was active in sports Melba in band
& music , school activities of all kinds, a very outgoing, friendly, beautiful teenager
Mike & I were good friends & I was sad when they
moved to Iowa City . Lost contact over the years
until now many years ago I visited with Melba &
Pearl in the Dress Shop 4 Seasoncs
Several years later I found Jean in a housing
complex in West Ia City East of the Mc Donald’s
For the last several years I tried to relocate once driving to an. address several miles to NE Ia City
only to find from a neighborhood resident that
she didn’t live there. Tried several times to find
any contact at Mt Vernon with no success
Sorry for your. loss. I share with you
I soon will be 91, our friendship dates back
80+ years & I treasure the friendship we had!
