Mearle Jackson

Mearle LeRoy Jackson (85) of Mechanicsville, died Sunday, August 22, 2004 at Mt. Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, following an extended illness. He was born December 7, 1918 in Mechanicsville, Iowa. He married Margaret Mulherin on February 24, 1942. They farmed all of their lives in the Mechanicsville and Morley area. Survivors include his wife Margaret of Mechanicsville, two sons: John and wife, Karen of Tampa, Fl; Larry and wife Deb of Cedar Falls, IA; two daughters, Janet Petersen and husband Brad of Mechanicsville, IA; Donna Spooner and husband Shawn of Cedar Rapids, IA; 8 grandchildren: Teresa Jackson of Tampa, FL, Barry Jackson and wife Tracey of Tampa FL; Brent Jackson of Sioux City, IA; Brice Jackson and wife Julie of Vail, CO; David Petersen of Marion, IA; Mark Petersen and wife Melanie of North Liberty; Kristen Petersen of Swisher and Keely Coppess of Ames, IA; 6 great grandchildren, Kortnee & Kaycee Holley, Zachary & Matthew Jackson, Kourtney Kepler, and Mayah Petersen; brother, Buell Jackson and wife Helen of Mechanicsville, and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. Preceeded in death by his parents Allen & Bessie Boots Jackson. Mearle was active for many years as a 4-H Leader, and was an avid golfer and member of Hillcrest Country Club Mount Vernon. He was a dedicated sports fan, especially the Cubs, playing baseball himself on the Mechanicsville Town Team until he was 40. Mearle loved to travel, and remembered every road and the best restaurants to stop along the way. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mechanicsville. Mearle cherished his family and his farm. Visitation will be at the Morgan Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon Wednesday from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. where a Wake Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Services will be held on Thursday in Mechanicsville at St. Mary's Catholic Church at 10.30. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mechanicsville. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mearle's honor should be directed to the American Cancer Society, 603 10th Street S.E., Cedar Rapids, IA 52403.
