Mark Carton Barnes, 62, of Cedar Rapids, died on Tuesday, May 2, 2017. Funeral Services: 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 9, 2017, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids, by Celebrant Roseann Wiley Hayek. Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Survivors include his sons, Jeremy (Melinda) Barnes of Atoka, Tennessee and Coady (Cindy) Barnes of Nettleton, Mississippi; sister, Rochelle Barnes of Sealy, Texas; brother, Steve Barnes of Tacoma, Washington; second mother, Virginia Barnes of Lacey, Washington; eight grandchildren, Jeremy, Rachel, Cynthia, Zach, Ariel, Lacy, Logan, and Ryan; great granddaughter, Addy; uncle, Larry Barnes; and several cousins. Mark was born on September 20, 1954, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Roy E. Barnes Jr. and Mary Evelyn (Leeper) Barnes. He enjoyed biking around town, Native American artwork and caring for animals, especially his pet birds. Mark spent most of his life living in Cedar Rapids except for a few years when he lived with his sister in Hawaii. He will be remembered for being a loving son and proud father of his children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorials are suggested to the Salvation Army.
