Marjorie Kurth

November 28, 1938 ~ March 30, 2026

Marjorie A. Kurth, 87, passed away on March 30, 2026, at the Hempill Hospice Center, St. Luke’s, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, after a long struggle with kidney disease. Gathering of Friends and Family will be from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. on Friday, April 3, 2026, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Mount Vernon. Burial will follow at Mount Vernon Memorial Cemetery.

Marjorie was born November 28, 1938, in Sturgis, South Dakota, daughter of Arnold and Edna (Kaubisch) Baker. Marjorie lived in Mount Vernon, Iowa, for 35 years working for the Mount Vernon Community School District and then as a day care worker before retiring.

She spent her final days at the Prairie Hills Senior Home in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where she enjoyed playing bingo and lived a quiet life.

Marjorie is survived by her children, Vickie Higgins, Roger (Teresa) Dutton, Ross Dutton, and Randy Kurth; siblings, Charles (Judy) Baker, Robert (Carolyn) Baker, Garnet Simms, and Maureen Baker; nine grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Larry; and daughter, Sherry Johnson.

Memorials may be made to the family. If you are not able to attend, cards can be mailed to 715 10th Avenue SW Mount Vernon, Iowa 52314.
