Marilyn Theresa (Furmanski) Konkowski, 77 of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, January 6, 2014 at St. Luke's Living Center West Nursing Home in Cedar Rapids. Marilyn's funeral Mass will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 25, 2014 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Mount Vernon. The visitation will be Friday, January 24, 2014 from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M at Morgan Funeral Choices, Mount Vernon. Burial in St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Lisbon. Surviving Marilyn is her brother Joseph Furman of Cold Spring, MN; three children: Kathleen (Bob) DuChene of Anoka, MN, Paul Konkowski (Kim Raim) of Mount Vernon, Marie (Pat) Cullen of Oak Grove, MN; five grandchildren: Mary Beth, Ethan, Andrew, Sarah, and Jeana. Preceding Marilyn in death were her parents and husband George Konkowski. Marilyn was born April 7, 1936 in Chicago to Joseph and Pauline Soden Furmanski. She graduated in 1954 from Steinmetz High School in Chicago. She married George Konkowski in Chicago in 1956. They moved to Cedar Rapids in 1968 with their three children. Marilyn was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She will be missed dearly by all of her friends and family. The family would like to thank the staff of St. Luke's Living Center West Nursing home, especially the RN's, CNA's, Activities Coordinators and Food Service for all of their kindness shown to Marilyn. They made Mom's stay these last two years so pleasant. In lieu of plants and flowers a memorial scholarship fund has been established for her grandchildren at Hills Bank and Trust, Mount Vernon, IA.
Myself and my sister, Glori, will be out of town on the dates of the visitation and funeral, so we will be unable to attend. However, we both wanted to express our sincerest sympathy to the family for the loss of Marilyn. I know she was a great friend of our mother, Bev Holtz, as well and she will be dearly missed by everyone.
