Lois Jane Comer

Lois Jane Comer, 92, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Stanwood and Lisbon, died Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2013, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Services: 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, at the Stanwood Union Church. The family will greet friends from 4 until 7 p.m. Friday at Morgan Funeral Choices, Mount Vernon. Burial: Lisbon Cemetery. Surviving Lois are her children, Darlene (Charles) Block of Maquoketa, Caroline (Leo) Bertling of Marion, LaSonda (Freddie) Sipe-Moreno of Quasqueton, William (Annette) Comer of New Boston, Ill., Barbara (Loren) Reece of Cedar Rapids and Patricia (Michael) Schroeder of Riverside; 22 grandchildren; 37 great- grandchildren; and 5 1/2 great-great-grandchildren. Preceding Lois in death were her parents, Herbert and Ada Martin Crocker; her husband, Vernon; a brother, Melvin Crocker; and two granddaughters. Lois was born Aug. 18, 1920, in Marcus, Iowa. She graduated from Lisbon High School in 1938. Lois married Vernon "V.L." Comer on Nov. 23, 1940, in Tipton. She was a secretary at Collins Radio/Rockwell Collins from 1959 until retiring in 1989. She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution and the Lisbon United Methodist Church. Lois played piano and organ at the Stanwood Methodist Church as well as taught Sunday school and served as Sunday school superintendent as well as being MYF leader. After moving to Lisbon, she played the pipe organ at the Methodist Church. Lois volunteered at school and the Southeast Linn Community Center. Lois enjoyed researching family genealogy and music. She loved her dogs and fast cars. A memorial fund in Lois' honor has been established. Online condolences: www.morganfuneralchoices.com.

  3. Sorry to hear about Lois. Was at the State Fair so did not hear about it until later. I have good memories of the talks Lois and I had about family and etc. when we worked together. She will be missed by all. Morris
