LeRoy J. Oldfield

LeRoy John Oldfield, 84, of Marion, died Wednesday, September 28, 2011, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Service: 11 a.m. Saturday, October 1, 2011, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Marion, by Rodney Bluml. Visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial: Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion, with military honors by American Legion Post 298. Survivors include his wife, Helen; four children, Randy Oldfield of Newton, Kristi Oldfield and Amber Oldfield, both of Cedar Rapids, and Jeremy Kuczynski of Marion; brother, Jerry (Sue) Oldfield of Mineola, Texas; six grandchildren, Rhandyn, Rheagan, Zariell, Zyndrik, Makaila, and Johnathan; a special niece, Linda Breckenridge of Newton; and many other family and friends. Roy was born September 29, 1926, in Ladora, Iowa, the son of LeRoy and Geneva (Faber) Oldfield. He served in the US Navy 7th Fleet during World War II. In 1960, he married Helen Nanneman in Kansas City, Missouri. Roy managed theaters for many years, including the Plaza Theaters and the Paramount Theater. He then worked in production for Quaker Oats, retiring in 1991 after 16 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family and had many diverse hobbies, including traveling on his motorcycle, fishing, playing poker, and panning for gold. Roy was a longtime member of the American Legion Post 298 in Marion and VFW Post 788 in Cedar Rapids. Roy was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Sherry Addy; and two sisters, Katie Opperud and Ramona Dvorak. A memorial fund has been established.
