Lena Horne of Cedar Rapids passed away Sunday, March 21, 2021, at the age of 39, after a long illness. A Celebration of Life will take place 2-6 p.m. Saturday, March 27, 2021, at White Star Ale House: 305 2nd Avenue SE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52401. Lena is survived by her beloved children, Precious, DeMarree, Tony, Lacey, and Tipharis; grandson, Christopher; mother, Ruby Moore; twin sisters, LaTonya Moore and LaShunya Moore; brother, Curtis Horne; best friend and sister, Adriana Smallwood; special friends, Russ Nelson, Demetrius Perry, and Tony Johnson Jr.; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
Lena Marie Horne was born October 21, 1981, in Chicago, Illinois, to Curtis Horne Sr. and Ruby (Walls) Moore. She graduated from Harper High School in 2001. Lena enjoyed working in customer service, and was a dedicated and hard worker. Lena knew how to luxuriate when she could relax as a reward for her hard work. She was a loving mother who appreciated spending time with her kids. She enjoyed gardening, reading, shopping, collecting dolls and coins, crafts, and cooking'especially baked chicken with rice. She believed in Christ from an early age, and belonged to West Point Baptist Church. She was a caring and giving person who loved everyone and had an open heart for all. Lena and her beautiful smile will be dearly missed by her loving family.
She was preceded in death by her father, Curtis; and nephew, LaVelle.
