Larry Clore

July 25, 1943 ~ December 3, 2021

Lawrence Robert Clore, 78, of Cedar Rapids, passed peacefully on Friday, December 3, 2021, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, with his wife and children by his side. The family will be having a celebration of life at a later date. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sharon; children, Tracy (Scott) Best of California, and J.R. (Alyssa) Clore of Colorado; grandchildren, Carson and Nicholas Best and Emmy and Austin Clore; and a brother, Paul (Sally) Clore of Tennessee. Larry was born July 25, 1943, in Akron, Ohio, the son of Robert and Marjory (Wright) Clore. He graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in Business Administration in 1966. On May 30, 1970, he married Sharon Hanna in Mechanicsville. He moved to Cedar Rapids where he raised his family and had a successful career. Larry spent most of his career in the computer industry, working at both Honeywell and Banks of Iowa Computer Services. He then joined his wife, Sharon, as partners in real estate at Iowa Realty. They worked together for over 20 years helping many families in the area find their homes. Larry had many passions in life. He was a pilot and loved flying with family and friends. He spent many hours in the cockpit and found great happiness doing that. He also loved fishing, including several father and son trips to Canada for Pike and Walleye. He looked forward to his weekly breakfast or lunches with 'the guys'. Larry enjoyed snow skiing and was a member of Ski Iowa. He and his family spent many Thanksgivings skiing together at Keystone with close friends. Larry enjoyed biking, including many years of the rigorous and famous Ragbrai races. Larry and Sharon enjoyed spending time with their biking group and were thankful to get to see them recently. They were very social and gregarious at Elmcrest with the many friends they met over 35 years. Faith was important to Larry, he was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Pius Parish. Above all, family was his most important treasure. He was a loving husband to Sharon. They set an example for their children of the importance of marriage and family with their many years of love together. Larry was a wonderful father to Tracy and J.R. providing love, guidance and wisdom throughout his life. He was a proud grandfather to Carson, Nicholas, Emmy and Austin. He enjoyed his many trips to California and Colorado where he spent time laughing and playing with them. He also really cherished the many family get togethers and holidays with the Hanna family. Larry's family will greatly miss his love, dedication, and all the things he taught them. He was preceded in death by his parents. A memorial will be set up in his name with Brucemore Estate (2160 Linden Drive SE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, 52403) and St. Pius X Catholic Church (4949 Council Street NE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52402) Donations can be made by sending a check to either organization and noting for The Larry Clore Memorial for Tree Replacement. We are requesting that all donations go towards new trees to help with the devastation from Derecho.

Guestbook

  1. We are deeply sorry for your loss ~ Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services – Cedar Rapids

  2. As a member of Green Castle Aero Club, I was often there working on a variety of projects when Larry drove up to the Club. He often came out just to smell the grass and hope that maybe there would be the smell of exhaust as someone would be taxiing out to go for a flight. We spoke often and long about something that we both loved. He was a pleasure to be around and will be missed.

  3. Sharon & family, I was shocked and saddened to hear about Larry. I have been gone from IAR for about 6 to 7 years but I remember like it was yesterday. All the laughs we had for 20 years I will always cherish. Please accept my heartfelt condolences and I will be thinking of you. Joanne Davis from Judi’s office

  4. With our heartfelt condolences to Sharon and to Tracy, JR and your families. I can only imagine how proud he was of all of you. Such fond memories.

  5. Dear Sharon and family, The sad news of Larry’s passing has reached us in Naples. We offer prayers and happy memories to you all at this time. A greater gentleman would be hard to name. God’s blessings to you and may Larry’s love overflow your hearts this Christmas season. What a beautiful tribute you wrote in his honor. Joyce & Carl Sefl

  6. Sharon. Craig, Sue, Janice and I send our love to you during what is no doubt a bittersweet holiday season. The sweet part is of course the memories of one of the world’s kindest souls. Larry lived his life with exceptional grace, coupled with a healthy dose of fun! It’s a hard combination to pull off, but he did so, every day. It was a privilege to work alongside Larry and you and share some pretty special times. We will miss him. All the best to you and your family. Scott
