Karon Kaye Thompson, 82, of Mount Vernon, passed away Saturday, December 17, 2022, at the Anamosa Care Center. Family and friends will gather for an informal Celebration of Life at 9 a.m.'12 p.m. on March 25, 2023, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Mount Vernon. Stewart Baxter Funeral and Memorial Services of Mount Vernon are assisting the family.
Karon is survived by her three sons, Loren Williams, Dan Williams, Marty (Kim) Williams all of Mount Vernon; three step-children, Val (Mike) Jones, John Jr. (Kathy) Thompson, Brendan Thompson; twelve grandchildren; nine great- grandchildren; a sister, Judy Eden; a sister-in-law, Donna Murray; and numerous other nieces; nephews; cousins; and friends.
Karon was born November 20, 1940, in Keokuk, to Thomas and Madge Thompson Murray. She grew up in a large family in Blakesburg, where she attended school. She was married and blessed with three sons. She made her home and raised her family in Urbana. She eventually made Mount Vernon her home and co-owned the local bowling alley. Karon remarried on May 28, 1983, to John Thompson and gained three step-children. She sold the bowling alley and would continue to work in various positions throughout Mount Vernon and Lisbon such as Gwen's Restaurant, the Mount Vernon Pool, and the Mount Vernon Care Center. Karon loved and was very talented at crocheting. She enjoyed watching the Iowa Hawkeyes and watching her children and grandchildren play sports. She was clever, witty, and always told the best jokes.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; three sisters, Mary, Marvelle, and JoAnne; and three brothers, Paul, Marvin and Thomas Jr.

My sympathy to you all. Karon was such a fun person to be around, always laughing and smiling. I have had so many good times and many wonderful memories with Karon.
