Judy Strait, 65, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Monday, September 11, 2017, at Select Specialty Service Hospital, Des Moines, after battling a long illness. Celebration of Life: September 30, 2017. Please contact a member of the family for the time and location. Survivors include her son, Dennis; daughter, Tracy (Cecil) Powell; granddaughter, Alexis Powell; aunt, Sharon (Jim) Hamblin; nieces, Jolene (Greg) Spooner, Christy (Jo) Barger, Tara Strait, Arlene (Alex) Green; nephew, Craig Strait Jr.; and many great-nieces and nephews. Judy Ann Strait was born November 15, 1951, in Cedar Rapids, to Marshall and Arlene Strait. She loved her family, crocheting, talking on the phone, and reading. She also loved her dogs, camping, being outdoors, cooking, and baking. Judy enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, especially best friend, Rita Dillon. She was preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Don Courtney; brother, Craig Strait; and grandparents Harold and Irene 'Bubby' Willis.

  1. Thank you Aunt Judy for always being a great aunt to me. You did a lot of first for me. Pound puppies, Kool aid, my first kitten which I lost 15 yrs later. Sorry about that by the way. Some of the things you taught me I teach my children.. like stop hinting around of something you want, ask. Speak up. I thought I was Madonna’s daughter and I always sang at your place with head phones on. I’m sure that was a ear breaker. I don’t remember any bad times with you. You helped me spread my wings to the world I didn’t know was there. Thank you for always making sure we had Christmas , birthdays, a place to go to get away from home. Rest easy Aunt Judy I hope to see you again some day.

Aunt Judy I just want to thank you for being the mother that are mother couldn’t be because of things that she was going through you gave us a safe place to go to and taught us how to be good parents you gave us great advice you made sure we had great Christmases and birthdays I model my parenting skills after yours I know I’ve told you this before and it’s true I am forever going to miss you I love you always may you rest in peace
