John Thomas Dunn, 60, of Cedar Rapids, died on Saturday, June 21, 2014, at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, Iowa City, from a head injury suffered in an accidental fall at home. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by Rev. Christopher Podhajsky. Inurnment: Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Arrangements are by Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids. Survivors include his mother, Mildred Dunn; father, Dr. Justin C. Dunn, both of Cedar Rapids.; brothers, David (Julie) Dunn of Virginia, and Greg (Wendy) Dunn of Cedar Rapids; and four nieces and nephews, Robert Dunn, Whitney (Eliot) Weiner, Jason Dunn, and Lisa (Justin) Worrell. John was born December 27, 1953, in San Diego, California, the son of Justin and Mildred (Golinvaux) Dunn. He attended Regis High School and graduated from Washington High School. John went on to earn his sociology degree from Mt. Mercy College. He loved fishing, hockey, and spending time with his family. John was a loving and caring son who watched over his mother for many years. He was preceded in death by his brother, James; and an infant sister, Mary. Memorials are suggested to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

  1. I had the pleasure of working with John years ago when he was manager at the Green Gables. We also traveled to Las Vegas together. Great sense of humor and fantastic laugh is what I will always remember of him. My thoughts and prayers are with your family at this time.

  2. So sorry to hear of the death of John. My mother, Gladys Shaeffer, such a good friend of Millie his mother. Justin our wonderful dentist for so many years. We know the pain of losing a child…May God be with you and bring you comfort in the days ahead. Our deepest sympathy to all the siblings.

  5. My deepest sympathy to Dr. Dunn, Mildred, Greg and Wendy. I am so happy I got to visit with John at Dori’s service. We had some great times as kids! The Dunn boy’s were always so nice to me. I am thinking of John’s entire family, keeping you in my thoughts and prayers at this sad time. Losing a child is not easy. Do we cry for those who die too young, or for those who are left behind.
