John Strutz

December 28, 1959 ~ October 24, 2021

John A. Strutz passed away Sunday, October 24, 2021, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. John was born at Roseland Community Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, on December 28, 1959, to parents Merle and Ruth (McGowan) Strutz (deceased). He was the youngest brother of Carole Boggis (James Boggis), Sandy Strutz, and Jerry Strutz. After he graduated Oak Forest High School, he went on to earn his AA from Morrison Institute of Technology. John and Angela were married for 38 years and together raised four children: Tiffany (Nicholi) Pitra, Michael, Brittany, and Jeremy. He was their biggest fan, attending every basketball and volleyball game he could and visiting them often. John spent 33 years in the hardwood flooring industry, serving the greater Cedar Rapids community through his own business, John's Hardwood Floor Service, for 25 years. The family will host a celebration of life at Cedar Valley Bible Church on Thursday, October 28, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. The family politely requests that attendees wear masks to the celebration. In lieu of flowers, please consider a tribute donation to the Polycystic Kidney Disease Foundation https://pkdcure.org/.

  1. We are deeply sorry for your loss ~ Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services – Cedar Rapids

  2. I am so sorry for your family’s loss. John was always kind and I know you will all miss him so much.

  3. Wishing you peace to bring comfort, courage to face the days ahead and loving memories to forever hold in your hearts.

  4. I am so grateful for the time I had with Coach Strutz at CVCS. It doesn’t seem that long ago that we were working on plyometrics on his sturdy handcrafted boxes in the auditorium or watching him sink half-court shots while we conditioned. I appreciated his approach to basketball and his personal authenticity. I know his presence will be sorely missed.

  5. Mr. Strutz,
You will be greatly missed. I sit here remembering all the b-ball games you coached for Tiff and Stacy. I loved to watch them. I would go back and watch them over and over if I could.
I can’t forget the Illinois Boys State championship game. That was awesome! You were there rain or snow to watch Michael play. That was impressive I must say. 🙂
Thank you and Angela for opening your house for a Bible study . Brittany – that was along time ago but you have been in my prayers since then and will continue to be.

  6. The Kansas City Kickball Family is with your family. We will be sending love, thoughts, and prayers your way.

  7. Angela and family, I’m so very sorry for your loss. John was an amazing man, kind, helpful and always cheerful. Take comfort in knowing he is with Jesus and pain free for eternity. I will miss seeing him around CTA. Theresa

  8. Never forget, you have friends who love you. Thinking of you Jeremy, and your whole family.

  9. Tiffany and Brittany, I’m so sorry for the loss of your father, John. May the memories you have with him give you peace during this difficult time. Thinking and praying for you, Lisa
