John Paul Jones, 75 of 1745 Cedar Crest Drive, Cedar Rapids, formerly of Stanwood, died Friday, January 16, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids from complications due to pneumonia. Services 10:00 a.m., Monday at Morgan Funeral and Cremation Choices, Mount Vernon Chapel, where friends may call Sunday from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. in the chapel. Burial in Stanwood Cemetery. John is survived by wife of 50 years, Roberta Jeannette, children; Kirk (Deb), Richmond, Kentucky, Lori (Bill) Thomsen, Mount Vernon, and Gary, Cedar Rapids, seven grandchildren; Aaron, Emily, and Austin Jones, Billy, Matt, Annie, and Jimmy Thomsen and numerous four legged friends. Preceding John in death were his parents Gerald and Buelah Auchenbach Jones, and a daughter Dawn who died in infancy. John was born October 10, 1933 in Stanwood. He graduated from Stanwood High School in 1951 and attended Iowa State University. He was discharged from the U.S. Army. He married Jeanette Linn, February 8, 1959 at Aledo, Illinois. He retired after 37 years from Square D Manufacuturing, as an electrical engineer. He was a member of the Stanwood Methodist Church. John's passion was the outdoors. He enjoyed traveling and camping with his family. He constructed a boat in his younger years and enjoyed canoeing and kayaking. John was interested in shooting sports and open wheel racing. He shared those passions with his family. "He was into a lot of things and was a great problem solver." His greatest commitment was to his family. A memorial fund is established. I will alway remember John as a class mate and friend. Our early years John, Jim Ormsby and I were playmates and our familys were friends and card players. We were six of the original class that graduated in 1952. The family has my deepest sympathy in their loss. Kathleen Arnett
