There will be a visitation at All Saints after 9:30 a.m. Saturday, prior to the mass. The Rev. John R. Flaherty will officiate. Private interment will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Joey, a beloved wife and mother is survived by Charles, her loving and dedicated husband of 64 years, daughters, Lori Ann (James) Kurtz of St. Petersburg, Florida, Nancy Kay Vermeersch and Linda Sue Vermeersch, both of Cedar Rapids; grandson, Logan James Kurtz of Orlando, Florida; sisters and brothers-in-law; nieces, nephews and long time dear friends.
Preceding Joey in death were her parents, William Joseph and Mary Catherine Supple, her daughter, Michelle Marie Vermeersch, and her two sisters and their husbands, Mary Catherine and Don Boyle, and Lorraine and Don Anderson.
Joey was born on January 12, 1930 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and was a 1948 graduate of Immaculate Conception Catholic High School in Cedar Rapids. She was very blessed to have married the love of her life, Charles Vermeersch on August 19, 1950. Joey's Catholic faith was most important in her life, and she was active in women's circles and volunteering for her church for years. Her greatest passions included: being a loving and devoted wife and mother, spending time with her immediate and extended family and friends, reading, dancing, cooking/baking, adventure shopping, and traveling.
Although she struggled with Alzheimer's disease for many years, she handled it with grace, dignity and courage. Her family feels very privileged to have cared for her during this illness, and will be forever grateful for the many special memories. She will be missed most for her caring, giving, gentle, joyful and fun loving spirit, and her love and affection.
The family would like to offer special thanks to the many loving and caring caregivers, and most recently, the loving and special care from Christy, Jill, and the compassionate care of the Hospice of Mercy team.
Memorials in memory of Joey may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association or to All Saints Catholic Church.

I am sorry to hear about Joey, Alzheimer’s is the worst, it was always nice to see her when you brought her to mass. Best wishes to all of you, I’m sure our paths will cross at All Saints. Barrie and Jane Ernst
Lori and Family,
Lori, I don’t know if you remember me, but I worked with you many years ago at Iowa National Mutual Insurance as a Claims Writer. I recall some of the wonderful stories you would share of your family and how caring and loving they were. It was apparent to me that you had such love and respect for your Mom too.
Remember all of those special moments with your Mom, and I promise you that in time, your tears of sadness will bring a smile to your face.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and yours during this difficult time.

Hi Diana, I can still see your lovely face, and where you sat. I am touched that you reached out to offer condolences after all these many years. Your kindness really lifted me and warmed my heart. You are dear.
Lovely Lovely lady who graced the earth with her gorgeous smile and Silver hair!! My mother also had Alzheimers so I know first hand the devastation and yet the love of entering their life and keeping their self esteem in check. Blessings to all of you that did such for Joey….She will be cherished forever and she will be with you …just a new way of knowing she is around. Not seeing but sort of feeling and as the years go by memories of only good will flood. I think of my mother more and more these days than when she died in 1998…! Sending prayers and blessings to all of you. Sally(&Gene) Kopecky
I feel privileged to have met her and her loving husband in her last good days and I am blessed to have her daughter, Linda, as my good friend. My God Bless Your Family!
A visit from Aunt Joey was always a big event in my childhood. You were guaranteed a huge, heartfelt hug and a kiss, the scent of her fabulous perfume wafting around the house, and much laughter and joy in her presence. I’m sure all of Heaven is delighted to have this gracious, spirited soul in its presence now.
Terry and I were always excited when we could take the Grayhound bus to go visit the Vermeersch family in Cedar Rapids! It was the highlight of the summer. It became a family joke how much I loved Aunt Joey’s fruit salad. She even sent some home on the bus with us one time!! I don’t remember if it made it all the way home or not! What great memories I have of our time in Joey and Chuck’s lovely, welcoming home!
My deepest sympathy on your loss. She was always so kind, inquiring about my sister-in-law and later my brother when I’d see her at Church. Once again Joey is a neighbor of Bob and Gina.

We enjoyed being Joey’s nexy door neighbor for 11 years. She was always a kind and thoughtful neighbor with a great sense of humor and a winning smile. Our best wishes and thoughts are with Chuck and his family at this sad time.
