He later starred in the M-J baseball league at Daniels Park and the Major Open softball circuit at Ellis Park. He worked for the Milwaukee Railroad for 20 years near the Quaker Oats plant and was a successful painting and wallpapering contractor in the Cedar Rapids area for nearly 40 years. Jerry was a hardworking, loving and proud father and grandfather, who fished the Cedar River for more than 75 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of more than 63 years, Barbara, in 2016. The family would like to extend their deepest and most heartfelt appreciation to the nurses and medical staff at Hallmark Care Center for their unwavering care and support during the past two years; and also to the staff at Essence of Life for their comfort and support during the final weeks of his life. Jerry loved you all. A celebration of Jerry's life will take place on October 10 at the Czech & Slovac Museum in Cedar Rapids, from 7PM-9PM right next to his beloved Cedar River.

  1. To Pops – The man who was my “father” for close to 17 years. We had some good laughs, and a camaraderie which transcended time. I truly believe we were cut from the same cloth in attitude and grit and I shall remember you with love all my days. Donna Mae

  2. Dann and Barb, our deepest sympathy. We are so hurt and grieving ourselves.and was loved. I don’t think we can get to the memorial. I need an address for both of you. Please.
