Jared E. Zellmer, 29, of Cedar Rapids, died November 1, 2015. There will be no services at this time.
Jared was born in St. Ansgar, Iowa, on June 17, 1986. He moved from Charles City to Cedar Rapids with his mother, Heidi Zellmer in 2010 to attend Kirkwood Community College to study Chemistry. In June 2011, Jared was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma.
The Mayo Clinic states: "Ewing's sarcoma is a type of cancer that occurs most often in and around the bones. Ewing's sarcoma is rare and typically affects children and young adults, though it can occur at any age. Ewing's sarcoma can occur in any bone, but most often begins in the leg bones and hipbones, as well as the bones in the arms, chest, skull and spine. Ewing's sarcoma rarely occurs in the soft tissues of the arms, legs, abdomen, chest, neck and head."
The incidence of Ewing Sarcoma is one case per 1 million people in the United States.
