Janet A. Bennett, 83, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Friday, May 11, 2018, at Heritage Specialty Care, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Mass: 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, 2018, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by Reverend Philip Thompson. Visitation: 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids, with a vigil service beginning at 7 p.m. Burial: Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Survivors include her children, Dianne (Larry) Floyd, William R. Bennett, Laura Bennett, John L. (Cheri) Bennett, and Jennifer Woods; grandchildren, John W. (Amanda) O'Neal, Carly Gilmore, Khary Floyd, Michael Floyd, Lawrence Floyd, and Aaliyah Floyd, Anna Katherine, Caroline, and William J. Bennett, and Jackson Woods; four great-grandchildren; sister, Doris Donovan; brothers-in-law Richard (Patricia) Bennett and James (Charlesy) Bennett; sisters-in-law, Grace (Paul) Kane, Lela (Charles) McCormick, Audrey McGuire, and Ruth Bennett; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. Janet Ann Dunn was born March 5, 1935, in Bernard, Iowa, to William and Loretta (Fitzpatrick) Dunn. She attended Mount Mercy College, first boarding as a high school student, and then earning her Associate's degree in Teaching. She married William C. Bennett on June 25, 1955, at Sacred Heart Church, Fillmore, Iowa. Janet worked for many years as a teacher at the local Cedar Rapids Catholic Schools, as well as raising her children. Most recently, she worked for Frank N. Magid Associates Inc., as an interviewer, retiring after over 20 years. Janet was a devout Catholic, attending St. Pius X Catholic Church and St. Matthew Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. She enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs baseball and Chicago Bears football teams, gardening, bowling, and was a member of SaPaDaPaSo and the Cedar Rapids Firefighters Wives Auxiliary. Janet was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William C.; his parents, William E. and Edna Bennett; infant children, Mary Ann, Michael, Charles, and Thomas; siblings, William F., Elizabeth, Louis, and Charlie; sister-in-law, Norma; brothers-in-law, Ray Donovan, Ronald Bennett, and Wesley McGuire. Janet's family would like to thank Mercy Hospital Staff and Care Initiatives Staff for their generous care of Janet.

Janet Bennett, 77, of Anamosa, formerly of Lisbon, died on Tuesday, August 11, 2015, following a long illness. Memorial Services: 11 a.m. on Friday, August 14, 2015, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Mount Vernon, by Pastor Tom Mattson. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service. A private family burial will follow at a later date. Survivors to carry on her legacy are her three children, Cindy (Terry) Snyder of Anamosa, Tim (Mary) Bennett of Pittsboro, North Carolina, and Cathy (Marc) Whitman of Lisbon. She is also survived by her sisters, Anna Straw and Waneta (Barney) Beasmore, brother-in-law, Richard (Jan) Bennett; sister-in-law, Jo Bennett; 11 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. GGB (Great Grandma Bennett) as she was called by all, lived her life around her grandchildren and great grandchildren and loved them with all her heart and soul. Janet was born May 28, 1938, in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of Cato and Lucille Webb of Mount Vernon. At the age of seven she moved to Lisbon. On April 12, 1954, she was united in marriage to Wayne Bennett in Newton, Iowa. He preceded her in death on April 28, 2008. Wayne and Janet spent many winters in Texas and Florida. They never missed the opportunity to take in the state fair, go out to eat, to the races, camping, boating, fishing, and many other activities. Janet lived in Lisbon for 68 years then moved to Anamosa with her daughter where they started their own business, 'Daisy May Essentials'. She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Keith; parents, Cato and Lucille Webb; sister, Delores; and many other loved family members. In lieu of flowers, please bring a non-perishable food item for donation to the Southeast Linn Community Center.

  2. Tim, Cathy,and Cindy—-am so sorry to hear of your mom’s passing. Tim and Mary-3&a half yrs. ago I moved back to Anamosa from Tampa. No wonder I lost track of you. I didn’t know you moved to N.C.
