Jane Melchert

Jane Ann Melchert (Wall), 91 of Springville, went home to the Lord on April 9, 2026. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Service, Mount Vernon. The Rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m. Graveside committal will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at Springville Cemetery.

Jane is survived by her sister, Joyce Dierks of Marion; and her seven children, Steven (Mary Louise) The Villages, Florida, Barb Mysak (Scott) of Springville, Mike (Lorraine) of West Branch, Mary Jorth (Bruce) of West Palm Beach, Florida, Lori Boyer (Steve) of Cedar Rapids, Patrick (Denise) of Mount Vernon, and Rose Sesker (Steve) of Ankeny. She has multiple grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Harold Melchert; parents, John and Anna (O’Meara) Wall; and siblings, Robert Wall, James Wall, John Wall and Rosemary Lang.

Jane was born October 21, 1934, in Farley, Iowa, to John and Anna Wall.  She graduated from Mechanicsville High School in 1953 where she was crowned homecoming queen.  Not long after graduation, she married Harry Melchert on June 23, 1953, and they moved to Maryland, where he was serving in the United States Army.  While there she worked at a clothing variety store making $25.00 a week, which she saved up to purchase their first car.  Jane spent her life as a loving mother and homemaker.  She also worked seasonally at Armstrongs Department Store and Von Maur. She joyfully cared for many of her grandchildren and always loved having the babies around.

Jane was an active member of St. John’s the Baptist Catholic Church, serving on the parish council and several committees during the renovation to expand the church.  She was the first female at St. John’s to become a Eucharistic Minister to distribute holy communion.  She could always be found baking or cooking something delicious whether it was her award winning pies or an after school plate of cookies, she was a wizard in the kitchen.  Jane often spent her summer days freezing sweet corn, making jelly, or canning vegetables for her kids and their families.

She was a very involved parent and spent many hours attending sporting events to support her own children and later in life her grandchildren.  She loved attending anything as long as her kids and grandkids were there.

Jane was a devoted wife and mother and she always made sacrifices for her children.  Her life mission was to be a loving Mom and Wife.  Mission Complete!  She loved Jesus and we find comfort knowing she is with our Lord in her perfect heavenly body.

The family wishes to thank the staff of the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House for their amazing care of our mother and grandma. Your loving care was a blessing to her in her final days.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House.
