Jane M. Koza

December 22, 1923 ~ November 21, 2005

Jane Marie Koza 81 of Living Center East Care Center, Cedar Rapids, formerly of Mount Vernon, died Monday November 21, 2005 from a long illness. Services 11:00 a.m., Saturday at Morgan Funeral and Cremation Choices, Mount Vernon Chapel, by the Reverend Frank Seydel. Friends may call Friday from 3:00 until 6:00 p.m., at the chapel. Jane will be buried in Mount Vernon Memorial Cemetery. Surviving Jane are six nieces and nephews: Ruby (Bob) Warren of Cedar Rapids, James Grimm of Cocoa, Florida, Edward Jr., (Joanne) Koza, Cheryl (Phil) Lang, all of Cedar Rapids, Gary (Paula) Koza, of St. Augustine, Florida, and Jean (Joel) Leider of Andover, Massachusetts, and numerous great nieces and nephews. Preceding Jane in death were her parents, her adoptive father Pitt Manning, a brother Edward Koza, and a sister Margaret R. Davis. Jane was born December 22, 1923 at Cedar Rapids, the daughter of John T. and Minnie Pearl Capousek Koza. She moved to Mount Vernon in 1935 from Cedar Rapids, graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1943, and attended Cornell College. She attended her fifty-year class reunion in 1993. Jane worked in the variety store in Mount Vernon for numerous owners; Lewis Clements, Charlie Nutt, Wayne Browing, and Carol Stoll. She retired due to ill health in 1971, after twenty years as a clerk, from Stoll's Ben Franklin. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and Methodist Women, American Legion Auxiliary and served as past Noble Grand in 1944 for Rebekah's Lodge Mount Vernon. Jane took real pride and spent many hours in her yard, where she grew all kinds of lovely flowers. She was especially proud of her rock garden, shaped like a butterfly by her father in 1927. The rock garden was renovated in 1988. Jane worked for over two decades on Mount Vernon's main-street from which saw how the town changed, grew and prospered.
