Jack Thomas Summers, 70, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Saturday, September 17, 2016, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Memorial Service: 3 p.m. Saturday, September 24, 2016, at Immanuel Baptist Church, Cedar Rapids, by Pastor Dan Wiersema. Private family burial: North Lawn Cemetery, Fort Dodge. Arrangements by Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Carol; sons, Justin (Cherish) Summers of Marion, and Jason Summers of Marion; four grandchildren, Kaylee and Sydney Herman, and Lincoln and Liberty Summers; brother, Wilbur Jr. (Carol) Summers of Auburndale, Florida; sisters, Deloris Griffee of Providence, RI, Darlene (Jack) Montgomery of Duncombe, Iowa, and Diane Summers (Darrell Hoover) of Catoosa, OK; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Jack was born November 1, 1945, in Fort Dodge, to Wilbur Sr. and Margaret (Ekstrom) Summers. He attended Central Webster Burnside High School, graduating in 1963. In 1964, he joined the Navy. He retired after 23 years of service. On July 16, 1966, he married Carol Armstrong in Fort Dodge. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year. He also attended Iowa Central Community College. He became a construction inspector for the Department of Transportation, and retired after 36 years. Jack was a member of the Toddville American Legion and he enjoyed fishing and collecting antiques.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jerry; and an infant brother.

My thoughts and prayers are with Carol, Justin and Jason (and family) for the loss of your husband and father. Jack was a wonderful man and I will always have fond memories of family gatherings with him. Rest in peace, Jack.
Carol, I was so heartbroken when I found out that you had lost Jack to cancer. Wished I could be there with you on Saturday but unfortunately I have another funeral that same day. Keeping you and your family in my thoughts and prayers. He was a great man and at least he is no longer in pain but those angels up above going to have their hands full now.

So sorry to learn of Jacks passing. He and Larry spent many years working together at the IDOT/ We also enjoyed the yearly Xmas parties. The years have taken its tole and there are not many of us left WE no longer gather like we use too..So sad! We are thinking of you and the family.
