Jack Francis Leonard 74, died Tuesday October 2, 2007 in his rural Lisbon home from complications due to cancer. Funeral Mass will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m., at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, by the Reverend Jim Brokman. Friends may call Friday from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., at Morgan Funeral and Cremation Choices, Mount Vernon Chapel. The Wake service will begin at 7:00 p.m., Friday in the chapel. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery in Lisbon. Jack is survived by his wife Irene, and their children: Tony and wife Jin Soo of San Diego; Jack Jr. and wife Sheralee of Minneapolis and their children, Andrea and Mia; Theresa Leonard of Minneapolis and daughter Selena; Jerome and wife Cynthia of Corvallis, Oregon, and their children, Franklin, Tiana, and Analise; and Patricia and husband Rodney Reeve of Minneapolis and their children, Emma, Isabella, and Owen. Jack is also survived by a sister Charlyne Leonard of Des Moines and a sister-in-law Doris Leonard of Lincoln, Nebraska. Preceding Jack in death were his parents, brother William, sister Elizabeth Leonard and by his beloved Newfoundland, "Maggie". Jack was born September 28, 1933 in Denver, Colorado, the son of William O. and Lea Courrier Leonard. Jack graduated from Dowling High School, Des Moines, in 1951 where he later returned to teach science. He graduated from St. Ambrose College, Davenport, majoring in Biology, and later attended Drake University and the University of Iowa. Jack and his family moved to Lisbon in 1967, where he taught at Mount Vernon high school. He later worked for KCRG-TV as a photographer and news director, then at the Heritage Agency on Aging as editor of the Involvement Newsletter. Jack was a passionate outdoorsman, photographer, astronomer, and writer. He enjoyed teaching his children and grandchildren the wisdom of his experiences. Memorials in Jack's honor may be made to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 212 7th Street S.E., Mount Vernon, Iowa, 52314.
