Ida M. Schley Henik, 95 of Mount Vernon, died Saturday, March 26, 2005 at Hallmark Care and Rehabilitation Center, Mount Vernon from a brief illness. Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 a.m., Tuesday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Mount Vernon. Visitation is from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m., Monday at Morgan Funeral and Cremation Choices, Mount Vernon Chapel. The Wake Service begins at 7:00 p.m., Monday in the chapel. Burial St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, Lisbon. Surviving is her son Robert Jr., and his wife Elaine of Mount Vernon, two grandchildren: Denise and her husband Dan Brannaman of Lisbon and Mark and his wife Lisa Henik of Mount Vernon, seven great grandchildren: Clint, Cody, and Kyle Henik, and also Ben, Alex, Cory, and Jenna Brannaman. Ida is also survived by her brother Walter and his wife Velma Schley of Anamosa, many nieces and nephews, and sister-in-laws Dorothy and Margaret. Preceding Ida in death are her parents, her husband Robert Sr., two grandchildren: Marilyn and Kevin Henik, two brothers Howard and Raymond Schley, and three sisters: Susie Raims, Gladys Topinka, and Rosie Knapp. Ida was born June 29, 1909 in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of George and Mary Kubicek Schley. She married Robert Henik Sr., August 19, 1933 at the Catholic Church in Lisbon. Ida and Bob Sr. farmed their Mount Vernon Century farm, raising their son Robert Jr., who was born September 22, 1936. They moved to town in 1960, where Ida belonged to the neighborhood Friendship Club. Ida was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church at Mount Vernon, where she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. Ida loved children. When she and her husband moved to town, Ida started baby-sitting where she touched many families. Many of these parents and children became life long friends and have continued to keep in touch. She enjoyed baking cookies, canning vegetables, and flower gardening. Ida always kept her hands busy by embroidering. She got great satisfaction in giving them as gifts to her family and friends. To all the people she touched, Ida will always be remembered as a kind and gentle wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. A memorial fund has been established.
