Harry W. Rude

Harry W. Rude, 72, of Marion, died at home on Saturday, October 5, 2013, after a courageous battle with cancer. A gathering of family and friends will be from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 8, 2013, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids. Survivors include his 'girls', his loving wife, Kathy Rude; daughter, Michelle Faulkner and husband, Charlie; and his granddaughter, 'Sugar' Sophia; and his daughter, Kimberly Trickey and husband, BJ. Harry also has a devoted brother and life-long friend, Lyn Rude. Harry was born May 24, 1941, in Decorah, Iowa, son of Harry Rude and Jeanette McConnell. At a young age, he moved to Cedar Rapids with his family and his stepfather, Les McConnell came into his life. He married Kathryn Dean on March 23, 1974, in Marion, Iowa. Harry was an entrepreneur, owning his own gas station, bar, used car lot and a concrete business. He also spent many years and made many friendships working for the 561 Local as a cement finisher. Harry was quite the character to all that knew him. He freely shared his opinion, wanted or not, with everyone. He spent many a summer day playing golf at St. Andrews and spending time in the 'lizard lounge'. He was a car enthusiast and a Charter Member of the Cedar Rapids Corvette Club. You could find him after work at the local pub drinking a Budweiser and chatting up his friends and bar tenders. Harry was an excellent chef, enjoying cooking delicious meals for friends and family. On the weekends he loved watching NASCAR, golf and football. He was passionate about music, especially classic country and classic rock n' roll. He met many of his favorite musicians at the various concerts he attended throughout the years. Harry said the best thing about being sick was meeting all the swell people that really cared about him. Thank you to all who touched his life. A special thanks to Dr. Krivit and his staff, Dr. Zenk, Dr. Murray, Dr. Cowden, and Dr. Bell and the wonderful Hospice staff at St. Luke's. Memorials are suggested to Harry's family.

My Big Brother
I really don’t have a story,just a few observations.Harry wore many hat’s in his lifetime,soldier,master welder,cement finisher,bar owner,just to name a few.The Four things he really excelled at were Husband,Father,Grandfather and Big Brother.He will be missed by any and all who truly knew what a Kind and generous man he was,especially with great cooking that he shared with so many. Rest in peace Babe
