Harriett Sander

Harriett (Moffitt) Sander, 98, of Mount Vernon, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, May 29, 2022, at Hallmark Care Center, Mount Vernon. Private family services will be at a later date. Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services of Mount Vernon is caring for Harriett and her family. Survivors include her children, Barbara (David) Vig and David (Novena) Sander; grandchildren, Darin (Charlene) Vig, Dana (Emily) Vig, David (Joan) Sander, and Marriett Sander; and eight great-grandchildren. Harriett was born on March 22, 1924, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter William and Pearl (Resch) Moffitt. She was a proud graduate of the 1942 class of the Mount Vernon High School. On September 8, 1946, she married Floyd Sander in Clinton, Iowa. Harriett was a farm wife, traveler, and Floyd's best helper. There was never anyone she wouldn't call a friend or lend a hand. Over the years, she was also a leader for 4-H, Girl Scouts, and Boy Scouts. She was preceded in death by her best friend and love of 70 years, Floyd; her parents; and her brother, Richard Moffitt. Harriett's family extends a sincere thank you to the staff at Cherry Ridge and Hallmark for their compassion and care. Memorial may be directed to the Mount Vernon Community School Fine Arts Association.

  2. Barb and Dave, I’m so sorry to learn of Harriette’s passing. I always loved her, don’t believe I ever saw her with out a smile. She was a gem. When ever I would visit Cherry Ridge, she was always there and so willing to join in the conversation and laugh with us. I will miss her as I know you will. She was an icon.   3. BARB,DAVE AND FAMILY, JOHN GOT ACQUAINTED WITH YOUR DAD AND MOM WHEN THEY PICKED UP CARS FOR PLAZA AUTO AND HE WAS THE TRUCK DRIVER FOR PLAZA. JOHN ALSO CLEANED UP ON THURS. AFTER THE WED NIGHT SALE AND HE SAID HE BE SCRUBBING THE FLOOR AND HARRIETT WOULD COME UP BEHIND HIM AND GIVE HIM A BUMP THEN THEY WOULD CHAT JUST A MINUTE. BUT REX CAME AROUND AND TOLD THEM THEY COULDN;T TALK ANY MORE BUT YOUR MOM AND JOHN IGNORED HIM AND TALKED TO WHOEVER THEY WANTED TO ANY WAY.MANY TIMES SHE HAD A HUG FOR ME OR JOHN. SHE SEEMED TO KNOW WHEN HE NEEDED ONE. SHE ALWAYS HAD A WAVE AND A SMILE EVEN WHEN SHE WASN’T FEELING UP TO IT. SHE WALKED WITH A PURPOSE AND FAST. I WILL MISS HER SO MUCH AT HALLMARK AND AT CHURCH ALWAYS SMILING AND WAVING HER LITTLE HARD WORKING HAND. WE ARE PRIVILEGED TO HAVE KNOW HER. JOHN AND MARSHA HEIMS
