Harold Gittings

Harold Edward Gittings, 55, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Keokuk, passed away in his sleep on March 30, 2009, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. He was born October 21, 1953, to Harold Edward I and Mary Jean (Tuttle) Gittings. Harold graduated in 1972 from the Keokuk Senior High School and went to work for Sheller Globe until 2004. He was a strong hard worker who enjoyed what he did and where his job sent him. Harold enjoyed stock car racing, hunting, golf and was very vocal in local politics. He is loved and remembered by those who knew him well. Survivors include a brother, Jay Gittings of Carthage, Illinois; two sisters, Antonia DeSherlia of Keokuk, and Barbara Sarro of Independence, Missouri; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; and special friends, Shelly, Cheyenne and Shane Ross, all of Cedar Rapids. Harold was cremated per his request. A Celebration of Life will be held from 1 - 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 4, 2009, at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 2030 Plank Road, Keokuk, Iowa. Food and refreshments will be served. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, 315 18th Ave., Hiawatha, Iowa 52233.
