She is survived by her children, Charissa (Ivan) Vonk of California, Cyndonna Tefft of Nebraska, Marcia (Keith) Stahl of Stanwood, and Norman (Helen Brown) Fowler, II of Idaho; grandchildren, Nathan Vonk, Mariah Hess, Sarah Letheby, Sam Tefft, David Tefft, Jessa Fowler, Micah Fowler, and Ames Fowler; four great-grandchildren; and siblings, Paul Warner, Tim Warner, and Mary Hansen.
Grace was born to John and Maud (Kent) Warner in Davenport, Iowa on October 31, 1926. In 1949, she married Norman Edward Fowler. She graduated from University of Dubuque, University of Nebraska, and University of South Dakota earning bachelors in elementary education and her library certification.
After college, Grace became a pastor's wife and joyfully fulfilled that role. Once her four children were in school, she embraced the role of educator and later school librarian. She was a member of Presbyterian Women's Organization, Delta Kappa Gamma, Nebraska Education Association, and Iowa State Education Association. In her spare time, Grace enjoyed traveling and bird watching. Grace was very involved in First Presbyterian Church of Williamsburg, where she directed the choir, taught Sunday school, and led Bible studies. Grace taught us all to walk in the light and grace of God.
Grace passed on Easter Monday to be with the Lord. We are ever so grateful for her time here with us and know that she is at peace. She was so very kind and will be greatly missed by those whose lives she touched.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; siblings, Jean Hopper, John Warner, Gordon Warner, and Marjorie Warkentin.
Memorials in Grace's memory may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church of Williamsburg, Iowa.
Prayers to you as you celebrate a life well-lived. I am so glad that Grace and my mom (Wanda Tague) were college roommates and lifelong friends. Trish and Byron Burnett
I’m so glad your mom had a chance to talk to her the week before she died. She was great about keeping in touch with her and I’m glad they were friends for so long.
I am sorry to hear of the passing of your mother. Mrs. Fowler is one of the reasons I became a school librarian. I worked with students from grades K – 8 for more than 27 years, and tried to be as much like her as I possibly could. She always encouraged me to read outside of my comfort zone, stretching me to read books that made me think and be exposed to new and different ideas. As a student librarian, Mrs. Fowler taught me librarian skills dealing with new books. I always smiled as I worked in my own library, remembering her smile and her patience. She taught me about book pockets and labels, and I used those skills for years! Mrs. Fowler was a sweet lady who cared about her students, worked hard at her job, and shared her smile with everyone. She made such a difference in my life! I am so thankful she was my high school librarian. Marcia Pierce Smith
We are deeply saddened by the loss that you have encountered. May God provide comfort and peace to your family during this difficult time and in the days to come. (2 Corinthians 1:3,4)
Marcia, Keith, and families. So sorry for your loss. I didn’t know her, but sounds like she was a wonderful person. My deepest condolences. Judy Niedorf. (FS)
Our prayers are ascending for all the family members. Aunt Grace was such an encouraging person to so many. Thanks for sharing her with us. Sharon Wright & family
I will be forever grateful for Grace’s friendship over the many years we had together. She and Dorothy Landa were nice enough to include me in so many ways when I was a brand new teacher at Williamsburg High School, as all of you Fowler kids will remember, but not your kids and grandkids. So it is very important for me to tell them what an incredible influence she was in my life. Grace was a true role model for all of us, especially with her kindness and consideration for all. We had many deep conversations about all sorts of topics and I will treasure many memories forever- especially our walks around the lake at Kent Park.
Your mother was a good friend of mine during the time my three children were at Williamsburg Schools. I worked with Grace for about a year at the Junior-Senior High School and also enjoyed many walks with her in Williamsburg. I left the area and we eventually lost touch. She was a bright and caring person, and I miss her cards and notes. Sending prayers and good thoughts to all of her family. Karen Knowling Albertus
