Gertrude Wasendorf

Gertrude C. (Abernathy) Christy Wasendorf, 98, of Cedar Rapids, died on Friday, January 15, 2016. As per her wishes there will be no services. Arrangements are with Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids. Survivors include her son, Gary Wasendorf of Cedar Rapids. Gertrude was born the eldest daughter of James and Gertrude Abernathy on October 18, 1917, in Platte, South Dakota. As a small child, the family returned to a farm in Kirkville, Iowa. After marriage in 1939, she resided on a farm near Ottumwa and moved to Cedar Rapids in the 1950's. Gertrude worked in sales at F.W. Woolworth in Ottumwa and then as Personnel Supervisor for the Town & Country Shopping Center location in Cedar Rapids. She will be missed by her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles C. Henry and second husband, Leo L.Wasendorf.
