Garen Francis Braun, 78, of Marion, Iowa, died on Tuesday, August 2, 2022. Funeral Services: 11 a.m. on Monday, August 8, 2022, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow at Dunkard Cemetery. Those unable to attend are invited to watch the service via livestream. Survivors include his children, Rhonda (Bruce) Perryman, Georgia (Robert) Devereux, and Kathy Conway; grandchildren, Alex Smith, Kelly (Tanner) Sprague, Perseus 'Bridget' Devereux, and Brooke Devereux; great-grandchildren, Alec, Bailey, and Mila; siblings, Blain (Christine) Braun, Janell (Betty) Braun, Leland (Doty) Braun, and Arlene Schroeder; and many nieces and nephews. Garen was born on July 18, 1944, in Fredericksburg, Iowa, the son of Orie and Leona (Kadera) Braun. He graduated from Fredericksburg High School in 1962, and DeVry in 1964. Garen served in the US Air Force for three and a half years, attaining the rank of Sargent. In June of 1974, he married Carol Jean Karns. Right after his military service, Garen landed his first job at KGAN, where he stayed for 59 years. His behind-the-scenes work focused on maintaining and troubleshooting equipment. Garen saw many technological advances over the years, including the transition from black and white to color television. In his younger days, he enjoyed gardening and motorcycles and more recently he loved to read and learn about almost anything. Garen was a hard worker who took really good care of his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Orie and Leona; wife, Carol; son, Damon; granddaughter, Gabrielle Devereux; and brother-in-law, Leonard Schroeder.
