Fred E. Lederle, Sr.

Fred E. Lederle, Sr., 79, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, September 8, 2010, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 11, 2010, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by Rev. Christopher Podhajsky. Visitation: 4-8 p.m. Friday, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids, with a rosary at 6 p.m. Burial: Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, with military honors by American Legion Post #727. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; three sons, David Allen Lederle, Freddie Eugene Lederle, Jr., and Gene Lederle, all of Cedar Rapids; a daughter, Deborah Lederle, of Rogers, Arkansas; step children, Denise (Rick) James of Bettendorf, Dennis Cooper, Bonnie Kay (Tim) Meyer, all of Cedar Rapids, Frank (Mary Jo) Thurn of Tama, Linda (Leon) Mormon of Independence, Anthony Thurn, and Tina Marie Thurn, both of Cedar Rapids; 18 grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. Fred was born August 31, 1931, in Portland, Missouri, the son of Clarence and Alice (Scott) Lederle. He served in the U.S. Army during Korean Conflict. On December 2, 1969, he married Bonnie Botello in Fulton, Missouri. For 25 years, Fred and Bonnie owned and operated the Yellow Cab Company. He was a good fisherman and hunter and enjoyed spending time at the cabin on Holiday Lake. Fred was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He was a loving and caring husband and father to all of his kids, and a great friend to many. Preceding him in death are his parents; and a sister, Delores Humphry. Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association.
