Erma M. Schabo, 93, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, May 27, 2013. Memorial Services: 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 30, 2013 at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids, by Ric Gerard. Visitation: 5-7 p.m. on Thursday prior to service. Erma was born August 24, 1919, the daughter of Harold and Estella (Hughes) Grant in Independence, Iowa. She graduated from Independence High School in 1935, then from Des Moines Business College. On November 4, 1946, Erma married, Charles Schabo in North Dakota. Erma worked for many years at Options of Linn County formally known as Linn County Handicapped Systems. Erma enjoyed many hobbies such as crocheting, and puzzles but always enjoyed a good book. Her family shares that she will be remembered for making the world's worst coffee but was the most gracious hostess. Survivors include her daughter, Pat Schabo, of Cedar Rapids; sister, Shirley (Norman) Rosene of Rowley, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews. Erma was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles; and a sister, Frances Trumbauer.

  1. Dearest Pat: Dan and I send our heartfelt sympathy to you in the loss of your dear Mother. It is extremely difficult to lose a parent. We lost my Dad and Dan’s Mom within the last 4 years. Thoughts of them are always endearing, as thoughts of your Mother will be. Bless you and our thoughts and prayers are with you.

  4. Erma’s daughter, Pat, is a dear friend. Although I never met Erma, I have witnessed Pat’s ongoing dedication to her mother. My sympathy goes out to all the friends and family, and especially to Pat.
