Edna Mae Cashatt

Edna Mae Caldwell Cashatt, 90, of Mount Vernon died Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at the Hallmark Care and Rehabilitation Center, Mt. Vernon. Arrangements have been made through Morgan Funeral & Cremation Choices. Edna will be buried in Eddyville Cemetery. Surviving Edna are two sons: Thomas of Cedar Rapids and Walter of Ayden, North Carolina; a daughter Donna Norton of Mount Vernon; two grandsons: Brian Norton and Russell Norton and his partner Eli Norton; and three great granddaughters: Taylor Nicole Norton, Kayleigh Steffen and Brianna Kiley, and a great grandson Kollin Rogers. Edna is also survived by a sister Violet Krizan, Minnesota. Preceding Edna in death was her husband Myrle who died April 23, 1984 and an infant son Ray Wayne Cashatt who died in 1948. Edna was born December 23, 1923 at Independence, Iowa, the daughter of Wayne Daniel and Sarah Elsie Curtis Caldwell. During World War II, Edna worked as a welder for the Chamberlin Corporation and as a machinist for John Deere both of Waterloo. She married Myrle G. Cashatt, July 17, 1946 at Hannibal, Missouri. In 1952, Edna and Myrle moved to Eddyville, Iowa where they operated Cashatt's Fina gas station and restaurant, The Highway Caf��. In addition, the couple owned The Market, a thirty-acre truck farm, where they sold fruits and vegetables. She and her family moved to Waterloo in 1962 where she was head baker for seven years at Bishops Buffet. Edna and her husband were partners in Edna's Concrete, a lawn ornament business. They retired to Lisbon in 1975 and moved to Mount Vernon in 1978. Memorials may be made to the Edna Cashatt Memorial Fund in care of Donna Norton, Mount Vernon, Iowa, 52314.
