Douglas Ogreen

July 30, 1960 ~ March 31, 2026

Douglas Allen Ogreen, 65, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2026, following complications from bypass surgery and pulmonary disease. A man of quiet dedication and vibrant passions, Doug leaves behind a legacy of a deep love for his family, a love for God, and a hard work ethic.

Doug dedicated many years of service to Collins Aerospace, where he recently retired as an associate in the payroll accounting department. His colleagues knew him as a reliable and meticulous professional and a true joy to work with.

Doug was a man of many hobbies, often found tending to his garden or experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen. He found peace on the water and cherished his time boating when he was younger. Doug loved his pets over the years, and was never far from his beloved dog, Sassy. His home was often filled with the soulful sounds of Motown or the timeless riffs of classic rock and country music; a passion he loved sharing with his family during their many gatherings. Doug was fascinated by the unpredictable Iowa weather and could be counted on to give an update on weather conditions whenever asked. He even kept track of rain and water levels on local rivers. An avid reader, Doug studied historical events, the Bible, and other topics as he had interest.

He is survived by his children, Ryan Ogreen and Nicole Unger; his three cherished grandchildren, Stormy, Jesper, and Kayla; and his great-grandchild, Persephone.

Doug is also survived by his father, Douglas Ogreen I; his siblings: his twin brother, Dennis Ogreen (Ronda); brothers, Curt Gandy (JoAnne), Jeff Gandy (Rhonda), Don Gandy (Tonie), and Erik Ogreen (Theresa); and his sister, Lea Anne Beeson (Jim).

He was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis and Minnie Gandy; his stepmother, Julie Ogreen; his former wife, Debra Harrington; and his lifelong dear friend, Mike Duckett. Doug was truly a wonderful man, and his memory will be held dear by a large extended family and many friends.

In accordance with Doug’s wishes, a private celebration of life will be held at a later date.  Arrangements are with Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. The first of many great family members to welcome me into the Ogreen-Gandy ‘clan’ & be a true friend. Always a fun time, lots of laughs, loads of cherished memories and even the tears through our years growing up in this world. Our kids were little buddies, and now adults encouraging one another, sharing music, food, and all that life brings. Doug-you’ll forever be in our hearts! Rest high upon the mountain & know we are glad you’re at peace.

  2. I loved working with Doug at Collins. He was smart, funny, and a genuine great guy. You can tell some people have a kind soul, and Doug was definitely one of them.

  3. I got to talk to him while he was on the phone with Nicole, he loved my goofy jokes. I always said hi dad. He made you feel like family.

  4. Doug was a great neighbor. He will be greatly missed. Lots of great memories of hearing his music playing while outside during the summertime and many great talks during the summer with Doug across the railroad tracks that separated our yards from each other. Dont find neighbors like Doug anymore. Will miss looking across the tracks and seeing him outside while i’m working in the garden this summer . My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
