Dorothy M. Ward, 90, of Mt. Vernon, died on Wednesday, March 18, 2015. Funeral Service: 1 p.m. on Monday, March 23, 2015, at First Presbyterian Church, Mt. Vernon, by Pastor Lori Wunder. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time at the church on Monday. Burial: Friends Cemetery near Springdale, Iowa. Arrangements are with Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services (formerly Morgan's), Mt. Vernon.
Survivors include two daughters, Barb (Ed) Bjork of Mt. Vernon and Ruth (Jim) Oxley of West Branch; grandchildren, Jeremy (Kellee) Oxley, Brandon (Marcy) Oxley, Kim Bjork, Jamie (Jeremy) Ferrrell, Nick Bjork, Kris (Reece) Roggentien, and Curt (Laura) Bjork; great grandchildren, Skylar, Oakley, Anistyn, Layla, Gavin, Aria, Easton, and one on the way.
Dorothy was born May 18, 1924, in San Francisco, California, the daughter of Frank and Elizabeth (Wolfe) Genung. She graduated from Vallejo High School in 1942. On June 14, 1952, she married Ken Ward in Vallejo, California. The family lived in Redwood City, California; Wellman, Iowa; Princeton, Illinois; and West Liberty, Iowa. They retired to Mesa, Arizona, in the late 1970s and then moved to Mt. Vernon in 1997.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, New Century Club, Eastern Star, and the American Legion Auxiliary. Dorothy enjoyed her Friday Bridge Club, painting, researching genealogy, quilting, and spending time with her family.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Ken in 2004.
Memorials are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church, Mt. Vernon.
