Dorene Papke

April 1, 1956 ~ July 23, 2022

Dorene Dawn Papke was born as Dorene Meyer on April 1, 1956, in Maquoketa, Iowa. She spent most of her childhood in Preston, Iowa, and graduated from Andrew High School in Andrew, Iowa. Dorene was an accomplished all-star athlete in numerous sports. She loved all sports especially golf and the St Louis Cardinals and was known and loved for her kind heart, funny personality, and unprecedented work ethic. Dorene retired from Arconic after 30 years of service. She passed away surrounded by loved ones on the evening of Saturday, July 23, 2022. She is preceded in death by her father, Paul Papke; mother, Betty Papke; brother, Larry Papke; father-in-law, Charles Lee; and nephew, Matthew Meyer. Dorene leaves behind her wife, Brenda Strube; three daughters, Annette Goede (Brian), Christina Palacios (Patrick), and Jen Stablein (Rob); brother, Rick Meyer (Lois); and two sisters, Archene Luskey (Mike) and Carol McGauvran (Jim). She also has four grandchildren who meant the world to her, Ethan, Peyton, Lily, and Harrison. In addition to her uncle, Wayne Meyer (Bonnie), she is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, friends, and furry friend, CeeCee. A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, July 30, 2022, from 1-3 p.m. at the American Legion in Preston, Iowa. Donations may be directed St. Jude Children's Hospital in Dorene's honor.   5. Dorene was a very special person:kind, loving, and generous. There were three years between Rick and Dorene. He always called her “kid”, and she called him “big brother”; I called her “sister” for 47 years. We were blessed to call her family!
