Walter 'Dean' Peyton, 87, of Calmar, Iowa, passed away on November 2, 2022, at the Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah, Iowa, from health complications. Funeral Services: 11 a.m. on Monday, November 7, 2022, at the Calmar Lutheran Church, by Rev. Byron Perrine. Visitation: 4-7 p.m. on Sunday, November 6, 2022, at the church. Burial: Troy Mills Cemetery, Troy Mills, Iowa.
Survivors include his wife, Dorene; children, Ricky (Becky) Peyton of Winthrop, Iowa, DeAnn Shafer of Winthrop, Pamela Langreck of Hawkeye, Iowa, Roger Peyton of Winthrop, Dean Peyton of West Union, Iowa, and Laura Peyton of West Union, Iowa; step-children, Robin (Jason) Franck of Prairie Du Sac, Wisconsin and Jeremy Weiss (Kayla) of Calmar; grandchildren, Dan (Shari) McElree, Matt (Janell) McElree, Jarrett (Jodi) Peyton, John (Andrea) Peyton, Joshua Peyton, James Peyton, Jessica (Carl) Gibbs, Nick (Melissa) Shafer, Crystal Peyton, Austin Langreck, Ethan (Kristen) Peyton, Derrick (Abby) Peyton, Seth Peyton, Justin Krebsbach, Blake Huffman, Bethany (Ryan) Negoski, Ryan (Peyton Renee) Peyton, Charlette Peyton, Truitt Peyton, Zachary Franck, and Ashley Franck; and great-grandchildren, Hunter, Hailey, Peyton, Maxwell, Jarin, Jersey, Jacoby, Marlee, Tyler, Jace, Jack, Juliana, Jaden, Nolan, Tate, Huntleigh, Chet, Ivie, Beckett, Declan, Annabelle, Addison, Raegan, Cora, Everett, Lynden, Ellie, Elias, Eden, Emmy, Ryker, Rylee, and Jacob Evan.
Other survivors include a sister, Kathyrn Joyce; son-in-law, Dennis McElree; and sisters-in-law, Lorraine Pape and Karen (Kenny) Kohls.
Dean was born June 7, 1935, in Walker, Iowa, the son of Walter and Frances (Johnston) Peyton. He was baptized at the Troy Mills Methodist Church. He graduated from Quasqueton High School in 1952.
Dean farmed with his dad after graduating. He married Donna Joyce in 1955. To this union five children were born. The couple later divorced. Dean moved to West Union in 1970, where he ran the Mobile Station for 2 �� years and in 1973 ran Dean's Standard. He was maintenance man for the fairgrounds and race track. Dean drove school bus for seven years at the North Fayette School. Dean married Charlene Merrick in 1970. Five children were born to this union. They later divorced.
Dean married Dorene (Ruroden) Doubek on August 6, 1983, in Calmar where they made their home for forty years.
Through the years he worked as a custodian at Aase Haugen Nursing Home in Decorah. He drove semi for Lynch Livestock and Livestock Transport. Dean drove school bus for the South Winneshiek School District and taught semi driving classes at NICC in Calmar. Dean drove semi for 17 years for Agri Processing until he retired.
He was a member of the Calmar Methodist Church where he served as trustee for several years. Dean was instrumental in having the church made handicap accessible. He was honored with a special recognition pin for his leadership and service to the church.
Dean so enjoyed coffee on the back porch and road trips with Chuck. He loved to watch westerns on TV (especially Gunsmoke) and on Saturday night he would be tapping his foot listening to Molly B. He liked going for rides and enjoyed having the kids come home. Dean's cell phone was his life line and he enjoyed talking about the old times.Dean's humor, wit, tender heart and very early morning calls will be missed.
He was preceded in death by daughters, Joyce, Kayleen and Jennifer; sons, Jacob and Jason; parents, Walter and Frances Peyton; sisters, Ellen Clarin; sister in infancy; brothers-in-law, Bob Clarin, Marvin Joyce, Wayne Ruroden, Duane Ruroden, and Dean Pape; sisters-in-law, Elaine Voss and Helen Ruroden; sons-in-law, Randy Langreck and Bill Shafer; nephews, Kevin Foley, Brett Foley, and Mark Meyer; and mother and father-in-law, Ula and Clarion Hilgerson.
