Dean Kirkpatrick, 86 of Mechanicsville, died Thursday, May 22, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center Cedar Rapids. Dean's funeral will be 4:00 P.M., Monday, May 26, 2014 at the Mechanicsville United Methodist Church. His visitation will be Monday, May 26, 2014, from 2:00 until 4:00 P.M., at the church. Burial will be in Lisbon Cemetery with military honors. Surviving Dean in death are his children, Gwen and her husband Reverend Carl Wenck, Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and their children: Megan (Laramie) Navrath and Jana (John) Greer and their children: Rebekah, Faith, Elizabeth, Elijah, and Sarah, daughter Dee Ann and husband Mark Glover of Mechanicsville, and their children: Mike (Kristen) Glover and their children; Addyson and Mallory; Patrick (Jenny) Glover, and their children; Carter and Keira; and Tyler Glover. Dean is also survived by a sister Maxine Sievers and a sister in law Opal Gish and several nieces and nephews. Preceding Dean in death were his parents and beloved wife Dorothy "Dody", brother Arlo, sisters Ruth Gamble, Opal Luerkens, and Verna Schultz. Dean was born February 12, 1928 in Mount Vernon, the son of Ray and Coral Stockton Kirkpatrick. He married Dorothy Dee Gish, June 5, 1949, in Lisbon. Dean graduated from Lisbon High school. He later served in the U. S. Army, stationed in Alaska during the Korean War. Dean was a hired farm hand for several area farmers. He was a maintenance worker at the Masonic Nursing Home in Bettendorf, and worked part time at Toy's R US until his retirement. He was a member of the Mechanicsville United Methodist Church. Dean volunteered making pies for the church, helping with the food pantry, and calling bingo at the care center. Dean and his wife loved to walk. He had an infectious laugh. Dean loved to talk and knew no strangers! In lieu of flowers, memorials in Dean's honor may be donated to the Mechanicsville United Methodist Church or the Mechanicsville Volunteer Ambulance.

  2. Dean was one of the most fun loving and happiest people I ever knew. I’ve known him since I was a young girl and I also worked at the grocery store in Mt. Vernon….you always knew when Dean was in the store. You could hear his most infectious laugh and he knew everyone…what a guy. We have lost a wonderful man.
