David E. "Oly" Ohlfest 49, of Mount Vernon died Friday April 14, 2006 at his home from a sudden illness. Services, 10:30 a.m., Tuesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, by the Reverend Mark Gefallar. The family will greet friends from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Monday at Morgan Funeral Home, Mount Vernon Chapel. Burial at Mount Vernon Memorial Cemetery. Dave is survived by his children: Kathryn Ohlfest (Joshua Holets); and Dustin (Shala Havill) all of Bokeelia, Florida; Martha Thomsen Ohlfest (mother of Katy and Dustin) of Matlacha, Florida; his father Robert and a brother Doug (Carolyn) of Sioux City, brother Tom (Monna) of Marshalltown, and brother Mike (Ok) of Chantilly, Virginia; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Dave was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara. Dave was born November 23, 1956, in Berwyn, Illinois, the son of Robert and Barbara Schroeder Ohlfest. He graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1975, and attended Iowa Lakes Junior College in Estherville. Dave married Martha Thomsen on April 1, 1978. They were recently divorced. He was a gasoline transport driver for Iowa Tanklines for twenty-four years. Dave loved the outdoors, including fishing in Canada with his family and hunting. One of his greatest passions, outside his family, was riding his Harley. Oly was loved, and will be deeply missed by all his family and friends. I miss Uncle Dave a lot! I never really got to spend time with him, or get to know him that well. However, I got to hear a lot of good and funny stories about him, and I hope that he is happy and healthy in Heaven with Grandma (and now Grandpa).
