David L. LeVan, 84, of Marion, long-time resident of Mount Vernon, passed away Tuesday, September 13, 2022, at the Strawberry Point Lutheran Home. Funeral Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 23, 2022, at Stewart Baxter Funeral and Memorial Services, Mount Vernon, Pastor Ken Ferguson officiating. Visitation: 5:00 ' 7:00 p.m. Thursday, September 22, at the funeral home. Burial; Lisbon Cemetery. Stewart Baxter Funeral and Memorial Service of Mount Vernon is assisting the family.
Dave is survived by his wife, of 61 years, Deanne; two daughters, Andrea (Mark) Wagner of Robins, Catherine (Dan) Boggs of Lisbon; six grandchildren, Tony Wagner (Laura Schmidt), Brian Wagner (Hannah Mallow), Danielle (Cody) Kellogg, Natalie (Andy) Stephens, Stephanie Boggs, Chace Boggs; four great-grandchildren, Avaline Kellogg, Hudson Kellogg, Jack Henry Stephens, Wyatt Boggs; two sisters, Francie Disbennett of Ohio, Linda Berry of Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
David Lawrence LeVan was born September 17, 1937, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Orlo and Loretta Burrier LeVan. He grew up in Cedar Rapids, where he attended school. Dave graduated from Cedar Rapids Roosevelt High School in 1955. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. Dave was united in marriage to Deanne Dean on December 17, 1960, in Mount Vernon. The couple made their home in Booneville, near Des Moines for a short time, before Dave re-enlisted with the Air Force. He served in the U.S.A.F. for 23 years. Stationed on the Canadian Border, Dave worked in radar stations during the Cold War. Upon Honorable retirement from the Air Force, Dave worked at U.S. Name Plate for 4 years. He then owned and operated LeVan Heating and Electric for 20 years. In 1999, Dave retired. Dave and Deanne spent retirement living in St. Ansgar, Mount Vernon and Marion. Dave was active in many organizations, but most important to him were the American Legion in Mount Vernon and Masonic Lodge in Mount Vernon. Dave also belonged to the Lions Club and Rotary.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings.

I’m so, so sorry for your loss. Dave was such a sweetheart and so friendly. He and I had many good conversations of which I’m so thankful for. We talked bird houses a lot and the big painting I had.

David was a good man – and a skilled craftsman. He will certainly be missed and remembered fondly. I have sent a memorial to American Legion Post 480 in his honor. Sympathies to his family.
