Daniel Hernandez, 57, of Pleasant Hill, Iowa, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died at home on Friday, January 16, 2015. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. on Thursday, January 22, 2015, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by Rev. Steve Orr. Visitation: 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids, with a vigil service at 6 p.m. Burial: Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Survivors include his son, Keith; siblings, Diane (Dirk) Thierer of Carlisle and Paul (Barbara) Hernandez of Austin, Texas; former wife and best friend, Pam Hernandez of Johnston; nieces and nephews, Nicholas, Andrew, and Stephanie Thierer, Gabriel and Maia Hernandez, Paula Berg, and Missi Preston; several great nieces and nephews; and a lifetime of friends. Dan was born July 22, 1957, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the son of Henry 'Hank' and Vera (Solis) Hernandez. He graduated from Regis High School in 1975 and the University of Iowa in 1981. Dan worked as a national sales and account manager in the lighting and electrical industries (Phillips and GE), earning many sales awards and accolades. He treasured time with his family, was an avid Hawkeye fan, and enjoyed traveling. Dan had a great memory and enjoyed trivia, especially music and movies. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorials are suggested to the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy or Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

  2. Dan was outstanding at his job, He supplied his customers with a dose of humor and a big smile each time he made a sales call, he was one of the best in the Industry and will be missed by many.

  3. I am sending my sympathy to Keith, Pam and the family. I worked with Pam at Seiferts and we all had fun with Dan at “social gatherings”. I was very sorry to hear about Dan’s passing.

  10. I remember growing up with Danny and his sister Diane, later Paul. They lived 3 houses down from us on Park Avenue. So so sorry to hear of his passing. He was always a smiling fun kid. Rest in Peace Dan.

As cousins we did so much together as kids, teenagers , college students and later on sharing good times with our families. We always had fun together. I will miss you Dan, Rest in Peace.

  19. I met Dan back in the 70’s when we went to college together. He hung out @ my 3 roommates and my apartment on Washington Ave. He was so much fun and so kind! So sorry for your loss. Theresa Fiala

  21. As a friend of Dan’s for 30 years, it was my honor to know him. We worked together and were involved with community events. Dan always gave more then he received. The twinkle in his eye and that smile made everyone around him feel special. I am in Florida and unable to be there in person but will be there in spirit.   26. Dear Pam Keith, , Diane and Paul, I was so heart broken hearing the news of Dans passing. My dad just found out this sad news on Wednesday evening and called me. I wish I could have been there to hug all of you. Dan was a great cousin to me. When Dean and I moved to Cedar Rapids Dan made sure that I knew I had family around and helped. us feel like Cedar Rapids was our home. Know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers. I pray that the memories Dan left you all with will leave you with comfort and peace with in your hearts.
