Clare Watson

Clare Watson, 92 of Lisbon, died Monday, September 27, 2004 at his home from a recent illness. Services 1:30 p.m., Saturday at the Lisbon United Methodist Church, by the Reverend Thomas Mattson. A luncheon will be held at noon at the Church prior to the funeral. Friends may call Friday from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m., at Morgan Funeral and Cremation Choices, Mount Vernon Chapel. Burial Lisbon Cemetery. Surviving Clare are his wife Arlene at home, a daughter Marilyn Gerhardt and her husband Joe at Omaha, Nebraska, five grandchildren: Valorie (Dwayne) Clark, Virginia Gerhardt, Vanessa (Dave) Hagar, Valetta (Jay) Price, and Vicki Gerhardt; twelve great grandchildren: Kim, Mike, Kevin, Joseph, Jennifer, Jessica, Joshua, Ashley, Lindsay, Jamie, Sarah, and Hannah; and six great great grandchildren: Jordan, Madison, Emma, Robert, Ericka, and Moriah; and a sister Mable Wright of Lisbon. Preceding Clare in death were his parents, five brothers: Alfred, John, Leslie, Mervin, and Orville. Clare was born June 30, 1912, at Cedar Rapids, the son of Frank and Jessie Burkett Watson. He married Arlene Graham November 12, 1934 at the Little Brown Church at Nashua. Clare and Arlene raised their daughter and farmed in rural Mt. Vernon, until they retired to Lisbon in 1977. After moving to Lisbon, Clare kept busy working as a handy man, hauling feed and grain, unloading trucks at the Wilson's Grocery Store, and worked at Kaliban's Appliance Store. Clare was a member of the Lisbon United Methodist Church. Clare was happiest in his garden.
