Cindy Kay Bascom, 59, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away suddenly on Monday, July 4, 2022, in her home from a recent cancer diagnosis. A Celebration of Life will be held from 5-8 pm on Thursday, July 21, 2022, at North Point, 621 Center Point Road NE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52402. Arrangements are with Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids. Survivors include her daughter, Melissa Jacobus (Sharon Kenney); sons, Justin (Beth) Bascom and Ryan (Erica) Bascom; grandchildren, Josh, Jordan, Damien, Braxten, Devon, Justin Jr., Treyvin, Samantha, Audra, and Harrison; great grandchildren, Marcus and Jazel; step-grandchildren, Andrew, Julian, and Jayda. She is also survived by her father, Richard; siblings, Gary, Teri, Rick, Vicki, Becky, Larry, Wayne, Debbie, Jeff, Shawn, and Dixie; several nieces and nephews; her partner of nine years, Joe; and her dog, Cinnamon. Cindy was born on June 21, 1963, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Richard and Kay (Thomsen) Bascom. She graduated from Metro High School in 1982. Cindy enjoyed bingo, going to the casino, and concerts. She worked at the Johnson Avenue Dairy Queen for many years and loved her work family, customers, and vendors. Cindy had a lot of love for her large family. She was preceded in death by her mother, Kay Thomsen; grandparents; and her former partner, Dan Brown. Memorials may be directed to the funeral home.   8. Dear Bascom family, I was so sad to hear of the passing of Cindy. We grew up together, I have fond memories of our younger years, seeing her at Dairy Queen and running into her at Riverside Casino. She will be missed! My sister Shelly and Becky have been best friends since elementary. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. Rest in peace Cindy, until we meet again. Sending hugs and love to all! Shawn Robinson

  9. My memory comes from Justin and Beth’s wedding. -the first time I ever met her I walked up to her and said “hi momma”! Without hesitation she said hello baby and gave me a hug that only a mom can give. At that very moment I knew she was an amazing mommy!! Moments are just seconds in time unless they are filled with extraordinary events and that one was truly a great one! She will be forever missed and cherished for the loving lady she was.
