After attending elementary and high school in Tucson, Arizona, he moved to Warrensburg, Missouri where he graduated from the University of Central Missouri. In January of 2000, he married his love, Chris Cook, and blended their families.
He worked at Cargill for 17 years, and was recently promoted to Health, Safety, and Environment Senior Director of North America. Chuck was very passionate about his work and the people he worked with.
Chuck loved traveling, farming, and doing things for everyone else with wife, Chris, at his side. He also enjoyed hunting a variety of North American big game. He was a father to everyone, especially his own. The most important thing to Chuck was pushing his children to excel and be independent and responsible adults.

Such an incredible guy! Full of humor, always made me laugh or shake my head! You will be missed Chuck!! So blessed to have called you a friend!
Chris and family, our thoughts and prayers are with you and all those that were blessed to know and work with the caring, fun, generous, dedicated Chuck. That’s in addition to his tough, hunter, farmer, environmental manager, philanthropist and many other “hats he wore”. He had a huge impact on so many! Chuck had a big heart and is a special soul who will be missed tremendously!
Chuck was a great person, friend, husband, father, farmer, coach, scout leader and mentor. what ever he was doing he always had fun and enjoyed sharing his tricks and stories. We will miss you Chuck.
Chris and family, my heart goes out to you during this period. Chuck was an amazing person with a big heart and always so full of life. It has been my honor to have known Chuck. Thoughts and prayers go out to you your family.
Chris and family I’m devastated to hear of Chuck’s passing, his presence will not be forgotten, he was a special person, the larger than life kind of guy who everyone loved! We are all better from knowing him and you are one of the best parts of his great legacy. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.
I only have known Chuck for four months as the project manager working with him on the NA EHS transformation. But in that short amount of time, he has made me a better person. I will treasure the moments we were able to spend. What will always stick in my mind are times when we were having a tough conversation, then he’d flash that big smile. You just knew that no matter how heated the discussion, there was a mutual respect and concern for one another. Myself and the rest of the team loved Chuck’s sayings. I was capturing the best ones for future reference. He shared this one last week as we were discussing vegan burgers: “Cows have been making plants taste good for years.” Just made me smile again typing that. It also means so much that he invited myself and the rest of the team into his home. It was a blessing to meet Chris and Collin. My thoughts and prayers are with you and the rest of the family. We will all greatly miss Chuck.
Chris and family, my heart is broken. I just so very much enjoyed getting to know Chuck on our trip to Europe, almost 2 years ago now. Chuck had a spark, a spirit and a warm soul that was a gift to all who knew him. My deepest regards and condolences.
Chris, Andrea, Danielle, Collin, Aaron, Spencer and Mohamed, and of course all the other members that have joined the family; I cannot express my shock and sadness for all of you when I heard about Chuck. I have so admired him and you Chris, and how you made this blended family so open, caring and close knit. I feel like I have been a part of so many activities and life experiences, that I cannot imagine you, Chris, without him by your side. And of course, he will continue to be there by your side every step of the way from here on out. What a great presence he was (you both were!) at every cross country meet, games, dinners, etc. Chuck with his hardworking attitude, and his great sense of humor, we will all miss him. I send hugs to you all.
Chris – On behalf of one of your many friends and co-workers at P&G, I am extending heartfelt condolences to you and your family. While I did not know Chuck, I do know the amazing person he married, and her standards are high. Please know that I’m thinking about you and sending warm thoughts. Hug your family…often. Darin Miller
Chris and family, I was so blessed to have know Chuck for the past 17 years. We have been through several challenges together and every one was made easier by Chuck’s people first no BS approach. He will hold a special place in my heart as he will in the hundreds of lives he touched over the years. Every time I put on a hat on to face another day of work, I will remember him.
My heart is broken, that Chuck is no longer with us here on this earth. He was the brother that I never had, and treated me as such. He was always willing to stop what he was doing so that he could help someone out. He never met s stranger. Always wanted to include everybody in whatever was going on. He lived life with great gusto! He had a positive effect on everyone he met. Chuck, you will be sorely missed, but we will always carry you in our hearts ❤️
I had the privilege to serve on the board for the Hawkeye chapter of the RMEF with Chuck & Chris! Chuck was sush a passonate individual when he believed in a cause! Chuck was one of the best people I have ever known! He was a fixer & always found a solution! He has touched so many peoples lives! He will be missed by so many! What a guy!!

My dear Chuck! I have come to know you being part of the global CSST team in 2016. And since then, you made me laugh, every time we met or spoke; you gave me courage, when I needed it; you provided advice, when I asked you and you taught me Cargill, when I was puzzled…… I will miss you and remember the fun times we had…….rest in peace! My condoleances to the family and friends of Chuck. Eline Beulens – The Netherlands
First I would like to thank of you for your support. I am honored and privileged to have spent part of my environmental job career knowing and having Chuck as my Buddy in 2016. Amazing person. My deepest regards and condolences from Brazil.
We are blessed to have known such an amazing human! Our condolences to you and your family.
Chuck was an amazing person! Always full of life, compassion and love for his family. I’m so sorry for all of you and you will be in my prayers. We are all blessed to have known Chuck. He will be missed dearly.
Chris, I am so sorry for your loss. Chuck was a dynamic fella and will be missed by everyone he came in contact with. God blessed each of you by Chucks presence. I will keep you and the children in my daily prayers in the coming days. May God bless you with everything you need to weather the coming days. In the love of Christ, Dan Dye.
Chuck’s life, personality, and laugh were so full and despite his days being too short, he may an undeniable impact on those he met. I only had the pleasure of knowing him for 3 years but in that time I saw that a gruffy demeanor was only a thin veil to his big heart, unmistakable passion, and tireless courage to say what he felt. I’ll forever miss seeing an impish grin stretch across his face before he let loose his wry wit. I miss you, Chuck.
Chris and family, we are all devastated and heartbroken at the loss of Chuck. I’ve worked with Chuck for several years at Cargill, but only recently worked directly for him. He was an amazing, energetic and passionate man who loved his family, his work and serving others. I am grateful for the opportunity to work with and for him. Chuck leaves a great legacy of lives improved because he was part of them. God bless you all and bring you peace and strength. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Here’s a picture of Chuck, Tommy Wiley (L) and I (R) having dinner at the CIBO conference in Portland this past August.
Chris and family, I am heartbroken to hear of Chuck’s passing. While I did not know Chuck, I know that he was loved by his amazing wife and family. On behalf of your entire DB Schenker family in Greensboro, I extend our deepest condolences to you and your family. Tonya Ugaz
I heard a lot about Chuck and was happy to meet him in Amsterdam on September 10 and 11, 2019. He is such a friendly man and when talking with him I got a lot of respect for him as a person. Chuck is one of the few colleagues who has THE ENVR expertise we need in this so changing world. You are carved in my memory my friend. My condoleances to your family and all you friends.
I’m so sorry to hear of Bubba’s passing. My sympathies go out to his children and Chris with comforting thoughts and prayers. Although we lost touch over the years, I have great memories of Bubba and the thousands of laughs we shared many years ago…RIP
My deepest sympathy to the Hallier family. Chuck was an amazing man who will never be forgotten. RIP my friend.
Chuck is an inspiration. He would fill a room, rally a team and challenge you to become your best. He lead through example and invested generously in others. My fondest memory will always be the 2018 Environmental team meeting that he and Chris hosted in Delhi – a day that began with volunteering at a local park, and ended with a feast of home smoked meats, activities, and camaraderie. I hope to see your fierce spirit alive in those who have been graced, and inspired by the communities you’ve built and helped to thrive. You will be remembered, Chuck. Thank you
Chris and family – I am so sorry for your loss. Chuck was an amazing person. I have only known him for a few months however it did not take long for me to see what an incredible human he is – as well as the perfect colleague. He is so well respected at Cargill. His work ethic is unparalleled – he never left an email unanswered and was always quick to address issues and concerns. In many instances, he guided our group to think “outside the box” to address potential problems and think through solutions. He was incredibly welcoming to our Cargill team at the Cedar Rapids office and that extended into his personal life – when we were invited to dinner at your home. I really enjoyed getting to know him and the family at the dinner. Thank you Chuck. I will miss you. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.
Chuck was our “Somebody”. He made everyone he came into contact with feel important and he listened/coached as he went. He will be greatly missed.
Chucks personality was bigger than life he could talk to anyone and make them feel like family. His smile and laugh were infectious. He will be greatly missed
Hallier Family…. My deepest condolences to Chuck’s family. What a wonderful person to work with. I will miss him greatly!!!! Chris Clark City of Dayton
Chuck was an amazing person and I am grateful to have had the opportunity to work with him the past eight years. He was my mentor when I needed career advice, always giving me the next opportunity; He was my coach when I needed some encouragement, usually saying it in some off the wall analogy that really made me think; But most of all, he was my friend who I enjoyed talking to and listing to the stories about his travels and his family. My sincere condolences to the Hallier family, Chuck will be missed tremendously.
My deepest sympathy to the Hallier family. I’ve worked with Chris for several years and never had the pleasure of meeting Chuck but the outpouring of love I see in the words of those who posted here indicate what an incredible son, husband, father, mentor and friend he must have been. My God bless all of you as he welcomes Chuck home.
My sincere condolences to Chuck’s family.
I first met Chuck in the mid-90s when he worked at Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids, and most recently saw him in May. He was as feisty, outspoken, and fun-loving then as at our first meeting. He was a dedicated employee of Cargill, who cared deeply about the people in his charge, their families, and his family too. When organizing annual team meetings, Chuck would ensure quality training took place, and would also organize a community service project for the whole team. He had many interests and passions outside of work, including a passion for teaching archery to grade school and high school student athletes. His team regularly went to nationals, with several athletes placing. In my last conversation with Chuck last month, upon learning that my daughter’s livestreamed volleyball match was still going, Chuck insisted that we postpone our conversation until afterwards, even though this meant a call even later in the evening, and this after he endured a wall-to-wall day of strategic planning associated with his recent promotion. Chuck will be missed. Clay Raasch, Trinity Consultants
He was my brother through my Sister. It was a great honor to know him. My family and I will miss him. Chris, all our love to you and your family.
I first met Chuck in 1985 when he applied for a job at Rockwell. We obviously hired him. Over the next 12 years I learned just how smart he was. Probably one of the smartest people I have ever known. I always reminded him when he was frustrated with someone that not everyone travels at sub light speed. He could be one of the most outspoken people but he probably had the biggest and kindness heart of anyone I ever met. I often kidded him that he was young enough that he could be one of our sons. He didn’t know it but Barb and I adopted him. Over the past years Chuck would stop in for dinner or sometimes just to talk when he came to Minneapolis. Just another one of our boys coming home to see mom and dad. What a special person, such a blessing to all of us that he came in contact with. He lived the golden rule” treat others as you would want them to treat you”. He will be missed by all who had the good fortune to know him.
Chris, we are heart broken to know of your and your family’s loss at this time. The Greensboro/Browns Summit family extends our deepest sympathy to you. We will keep you and your family in our prayers. God bless you, your children, and grandchildren at this time. Nate and team
I first met Chuck when he was a board member of Camp Hitaga. I learned rather quickly that Chuck could be very direct in expressing himself but also was a very fair and principled man. In later years when I got to know Chuck through archery, I continued to see how much he cared about young people. I developed a strong respect for Chuck, even when he would occasionally “point me in the right direction”. I will always cherish the memories and believe strongly that he has left a lasting and positive legacy in his wake. My most sincere condolences to Chuck’s family and friends. He will be missed.
My deepest sympathy to Chris and all of Chuck’s loved ones on this tragic loss. Chuck hired me to come work with the Cargill environmental team back in 2012. I can still picture him sitting at his desk interviewing me with Mitch Hediger. That first meeting was the start of so many memorable events with him over the years. Several months ago our Eddyville environmental team started a board with all kinds of funny sayings we hear and I am sure it is not shocking that there are numerous ones attributed to Chuck. I think he found that pretty amusing. I am so very grateful that I got the opportunity to work with and be friends with him. My family and I will be praying for comfort and peace for you all.
‘The best thing a person can leave behind is a smile on the face of those that think of him.’ Chuck certainly is that kind of person. To the family and friends I extend my deepest sympathy for the loss of our dear Chuck. Photo: CSST EHS LT, The Netherlands, January 2017
I first met Chuck (and his brother Steve) over 30 years ago in Organic Chemistry at UCM. Little did we know that we would become life long friends. Chuck even jumped into a lake to save my now 39 year old son when they were fishing when my son was 5. I could never thank him enough for saving my boy. Words cannot express my sorrow, but know that we are praying for all of his family.
Chris and family we are so very sorry to hear about Chuck. He was a great guy that would do anything for you. Our most heartfelt condolences Erik and Becky Munson
Chucks compassion for the children he worked with will always live with me and my children. I knew him for such a short time but saw only a good man who wanted all to succeed. He will be missed by many. Jeremy Kunz and Family
Met Chuck while working for Cargill in Cedar Rapids. A few years later went on a gator hunt with Chuck and Bob Pillard in Louisiana. It was quite a road trip with a lot of laughing, swearing and good stories. Saw Chuck take 2 gators that week with a bow, that was pretty impressive! Will never forget the trip or Chuck. He will be greatly missed.
Chris and family I have never had a chance to meet Chuck but based on all the stories that you told me during our lunch breaks I know he was an amazing person and the love that you have for each other was incredible. My thoughts and prayers go out to your and your family!
Chuck was an amazing archery coach and person to us and one shoot I shot super well and he was so proud of me! Chuck will be missed but deep down I I I know that he will always be there watching me shoot.
I loved and respected this man. He was selfless in his time, effort, and energy he put in to teaching the next generation in scouting and archery. He emulated what being a man is with his integrity and work ethic. He was never short of a smart a$$ quip and his awesome laugh to follow. Chris and Collin, and the rest of the family, I’m sorry this guy got ripped from your lives too early.
I have known Chuck as a Cargill colleague for a number of years, but have been blessed to have gotten to know him as a father, husband, and friend during the past several months. Chris and Collin, my heart goes out to you, but I know you are both strong and will be just fine on your journey with Chuck’s spirit guiding the way.
Chris and family, there are no words to describe how incredibly sad I am to hear the news about Chuck. I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to work with Chuck. He was such an incredible man and his larger than life personality will be missed. His big heart, quick wit and infectious smile will be memories I will cherish forever. Hugs and prayers for all of you.
I’ve been extremely blessed to work with Chuck for the last 8 years. He’s been an irreplaceable source of wisdom, passion, leadership, support, and humor. He had a big personality and a big heart….the void without him feels big too. Praying for all those who knew and loved him, especially his family. We miss you Chuck.
I will always remember Chuck’s generous heart and larger-than-life presence – not to mention all the fun stories he shared that often revolved around his kids. We will not be able to fill his shoes. I’m so thankful to have worked with him and gotten to know him all of these years and to have learned some good life lessons from Chuck in raising children. He touched so many lives and will be greatly missed. My family and I send prayers for strength and peace to his wonderful family.
I have had the immense honor and pleasure to have worked with Chuck in Cedar Rapids several years ago as a young engineer. Chuck was a great leader and a true professional. Our Cargill team suffered a great loss. My sincere condolences to the Hallier family. The Kaidi family will keep you in our thoughts and prayers. Rest in Peace Chuck
It was an honor to work with Chuck and get to meet his family when I came to Cedar Rapids. I will always remember to conversations we had about making sure my family was getting what I needed during a rough patch and he always shared his experiances which helped me learn and grow as a person.
Chris, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Praying for you to have comfort in this difficult time.
My deepest condolences and prayers to the Hallier family. Chuck and I worked for competitors, he Cargill and me ADM, and we both worked in regulatory affairs. As such, starting many years ago, we became colleagues while serving on several industry trade associations, and became friends. I cannot add much more about Chuck than what has already been written here, except to say what a wonderful leader and mentor he was for his company, the Corn Wet Milling Industry, and the trade associations he served on. In that regard, Chuck was recently elected to the Board of Directors of the Council of Industrial Boiler Owners, filling a void created by my and another Board member’s retirements. The Council has lost a huge asset with Chuck’s passing. On a more personal note, I always loved seeing Chuck and hearing his stories about his family, farming, hunting and our mutual battles with regulatory agencies. One memorable story involved him handing me his iPad and asking me look at pictures of him hunting gators in Louisiana. I remarked he looked like an original swamp people and that put a huge grin on his face. Chuck is missed by many, but we will see him again in a little while.
Because I am a meat scientist myself, I always enjoyed when Chuck would put his “meathead” hat on and endeavor on smoking pork butts or brisket. A Chuckism would be ” Good quality meat doesn’t need any seasoning because it hides the taste of the meat.” I didn’t always agree with his view on seasoning, but, boy did he ever have his smoking process down! I always found myself going back for seconds because the meat tasted great. I loved the pride that he took in everything he did as he focused on everyone having a great experience. Chuck was the kind of brother in-law everyone loves to have. We will do our best to carry the torch going forward. Tim
Dear Chris and Hallier Family, I have had the pleasure of working with Chuck for more than 10 years now. Over the past 2 of those years, we have traveled together to Ohio many times. As you know, the Dayton trips. During those trips, he and I have spent lots of hours in airports, breakfasts and dinners together. Lots of idle time. And, for him, that becomes his opportunity….to tell stories. As I also enjoy telling stories, we exchanged lots of stories, hundreds of stories. As Chuck could make a 20 minute long, grandiose story out of something so simple as losing his cellphone in the field and running over it with the tractor, he had a lot to share. He usually outpaced me by about 9 to 1. He told stories about hunting, farming, deep sea fishing, vacations, food, the archery club, pulling heavy things with his truck, friends and their custom cars, work – past and present, but mostly about his family. I listened to the continuing stories about your escapades. Every story including at least one grinning pause, just to make sure you were still listening. I still think of them and smile. The next trip to Dayton will be difficult one for me, as those trips have always been a good time, and I will miss Chuck with his larger than life presence and his highly entertaining stories. Your Friend, Jeff Tiemann
Chris and family,
Even though our paths in life never crossed, as I read the many comments and heartfelt condolences from family and friends I felt as if I knew Chuck. My heart was moved when I heard the news of Chuck’s passing, not because he was a longtime friend but from knowing Chris and heart she has for her family and husband. As you process through your grief, my prayer is that God will comfort you and wrap His arms around you. The devastation of losing a loved one is great, but may it never outweigh the benefit of the love you shared.
I had the privilege and pleasure of working with Chuck as outside counsel to Cargill for over a decade. Chuck was whip smart and didn’t suffer fools gladly, just two of the many traits I appreciated about him. As devastating as it was for me to hear this news, I can only imagine the heartache you, his family, are experiencing. Chuck was a great guy and your loss will be shared by all who knew him. Take care. Bill Hefner, Minneapolis
Chris and family, Words cannot express losing Chuck in our Cargill family. Chuck has been a fixture in our business for so many years with his expertise, attitude, personality, and friendship. Over those years, our natural resources team and sites worked with Chuck closely. Lots of good moments and stories that will keep his memory alive with a smile even through a heavy heart. He was full of life and we will miss him greatly. We thought donating a tree in Chuck’s memory fits with his love of outdoors, farming, and focus on environment. You will continue to be in our thoughts and prayers. – Jeff Tiemann, Matt Jahnke, Theresa Dziewatkoski, and Mark Buzek
Dear Chris & family, My thoughts have been with you all during this difficult time. Chuck lived his life to the fullest and shared his love with everyone he came in contact with. I will always remember his smiles, twinkle in his eyes, laughter, & time he spent teaching others. He absolutely loved his family and time teaching others about activities he loved! I’m thankful our paths crossed & I had the opportunity to spend time with you both over the past few years! Cherish your beautiful memories! I wish you all peace and comfort during this difficult time.
‘Chuck was my first Cargill work friend. He supported me from my first day almost 5 years ago and insisted I come out to see his plants first. The photo below is my second month @ Cargill. Feb 2015 – Cedar Rapids. Always so generous, supportive.- fun. He’d talk about work, about hobbies and mostly about family. Passionate subjects all. I will miss him everyday and will recall daily a “Chuckism” or “ Chuckle” (as I dubbed them). I thank God allowing our paths to cross and I thank Chris and his family for sharing Chuck with all of us. Rest my friend.
To Chris, the Hallier family and all the Cargill friends, I am so sorry for the loss of Chuck. He was an inspiration to me. Chuck meant a great deal to me both personally and professionally. I am going to miss his friendship, smile and conversations we’ve had. I know we all wish we had that one more conversation with someone before they leave this world. If I had that chance I would thank Chuck for all his support, loyalty, friendship, and memories especially his capability to listen. He was such a great listener and when we celebrate his life I know he will hear all the ways he changed us all and made us better. Jeff and Leigh Ann Cleland
Chris I never met your husband, but I do remember when you were here at the WCMC he sent you cupcakes on your anniversary. You were so surprised wondering who gave him the site information. That was really sweet of him. My deepest condolences go to you and your family.
