Chad Allan Jolson, 37, of Marion, died on Wednesday, August 23, 2017. Family and friends will gather from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, September 9, 2017, with Sharing of Memories and Military Honors beginning at 3 p.m. at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids.
Chad was born on July 2, 1980, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Bruce and Cynthia (Hamlin) Jolson. He graduated from Baker University with a Bachelor of Science and the University of Iowa with a Bachelor of Arts. Chad proudly and honorably served his country in the United States Army and Reserves, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He also received the honor and title of Colonel from the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
He will be remembered for his keen sense of humor and as a smart aleck who spoke his mind with intelligence. His values for honesty and integrity will be just a few of the things his family and friends will miss.
Chad recently worked as an insurance inspector, but also spent time with a sheriff's department in Kansas and working with Black Water.
Survivors include his father, Bruce (Nancy Parker) Jolson; his love, Meghann Croy and her children, Zeke, Madeline, Aidan, Finlay, Penelope, Ruby, and Liam; several aunts, uncles, and cousins, especially his uncle, Scott Jolson; his dog, Dakota (Biggles); and former wife and friend, Heidi Ide.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Cynthia and his grandparents.
I worked with Chad and was friends with him. Thoughts and prayers for everyone.
Meghann,
I am terribly sorry for your loss. Chad was an all around great guy I remember fondly from high school. You and your families are in my thoughts and prayers. May he ride forever in heaven.

I enjoyed working with Chad at Farmers. He had a great sense of humor and I was fortunate to get to know him. My husband is in the Army, so he would often tell me stories about his time in the service. I was saddened to hear of his passing. Rest In Peace friend.

Oh goodness…Chad Jolson…I will always remember you coming to visit my husband in the hospital, that was the first time I met you…fast friends after that…dinners, drinks, casinos, resturaunt hoping, the renaissance festival, “jamexican” food, bbq, dogs, conversations that lasted for hours…that big, giant smile of yours with the sarcasm that I often didn’t get, which caused you a great deal of comedic relief…I’m thankful for the time I spent with you and with Heidi… the fellowship and laughs…I hope you’re at rest and have found a painless peace…Kellie
My sincere condolences to the family of Chad Jolson. May your memories give you comfort in the days and weeks ahead, and have faith in God’s promise of seeing your loved one again by means of the resurrection. (John 5:28,29) God always fulfills his promises. (Numbers 23:19)
I first met Chad when I interviewed him for his first position with Farmers. He was intelligent, well spoken and hilarious!! We developed a friendship and he made work more enjoyable!! He was ornery and had a good heart. He was never afraid to stand up for what he felt was right. He will definitely be missed.
Much too young and happy to be gone so soon. Prayers to the family & friends and hugs!

Bruce and Nancy so sorry for your loss.
We met when we worked together at Farmer’s. You were a unique person with insights and experiences that set you apart from the crowd. I’m grateful to have known you, even if our acquaintance was brief. I’m wishing the very best to the loved ones you left behind.
Dana and the girls and all of us went to Sunrise Church many years ago but have often run into each other and my heart is broken but do understand the pain that Chad was suffering and even his family may no have know about…Please forgive him and only hold to the memories that he is safe in the Lord’s arms and heaven is full of peace and no pain. We will continue to pray for this beautiful family and please do not take my words as disrespect….I too suffered silently with depression and kept it from everyone…May the Lord keep you strong…Laurie Lee Taylor and Bobby and Cammy Taylor
