Bonnie Lou Roy, 90, passed away at home in Lisbon, Iowa, on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, surrounded by family. Burial: Iowa Veterans Cemetery near Van Meter at a later date. The family is being cared for by Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Mount Vernon.
Bonnie was born in rural Lucas County, Iowa, August 19, 1933, the daughter of Charlie and Janie Thomas. Bonnie worked as an office manager and accountant to various companies. She was married to Lee Junior Roy for 55 years. She was a lifelong sorority member in the General Grand Chapter Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed bowling, flowers, gardening, birds, spending time with her dog, Pickles, watching sports, Sunday Night Football, golf, and especially, spending time with her grandkids and great-grandkids.
Some of Bonnie's and Lee's cherished memories with friends and family, were spent at their house at Diamondhead Lake.
Bonnie is survived by her son, Jeffrey (Linda) Roy of Swanton, Ohio; two daughters, Cynthia Boeckmann of Kailua Kona, Hawaii, and Leslie (John McPhail) Nelson of Lisbon, Iowa; sister, Theobelle Ross of Des Moines, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Christina (Michael) Van Ness of Earlham, Iowa, Sean Roy of Swanton, Ohio, Stephanie (Ian) Ekberg of Hobe Sound, Florida, Parker Boeckmann of Kailua Kona, Hawaii, Spencer (Holly) Nelson of Lake Forest, Minnesota, Kiley Nelson of Cleveland, Ohio, and Colten (Alexa) Nelson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and ten great-grandchildren, Quinten Van Ness and Kelly "Ash" Van Ness, both of Earlham, Iowa, Indianna Ekberg, Asher, and Soleil Ekberg, all of Hobe Sound, Florida, Roland Draves, Allen Nelson, and Lincoln Nelson all of Forest Lake, Minnesota, and Dallas and Lane Nelson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Lee Roy; siblings, Pearl (Wilbur) Kooyman, Glen (Marion) Thomas, Dale Thomas, and Alvin 'Tom' Thomas.
The family extends a special thank you to St. Croix Hospice for the excellent care for Bonnie.

Sorry to see the passing of Bonnie. What a gracious and thoughtful lady. I lived with her and Lee at The Arbordale senior living community in Urbandale. We enjoyed many activities together and she was very good at WI Bowling, always a winner. May she rest in peace. My condolences to her family.
