Billy Dean Lingo was born November 13, 1933, in Cedar Rapids, to William and Opal (Wilkinson) Lingo. He attended Immaculate Conception and Wilson Schools in Cedar Rapids. Eager to help his family, Billy joined the Air Force at 14, and was discharged when they determined he was too young to serve. He later enlisted in the Marines, ready to serve his country and provide for his family. He served in Korea from 1952 to 1954. Billy lived in Independence for a while, working for the power company and even running for Sheriff. After moving back to the Cedar Rapids area, he retired from the City of Cedar Rapids following years of working in street maintenance. He enjoyed watching westerns, Walker Texas Ranger, and Cops, deer hunting, and was an amazing story-teller'those listening were intrigued and ready to hear more. Mostly, Billy cherished spending time with his family. He was the guy you called to help with anything'he was always ready to assist. Billy had a rough life'living through the depression, serving in war, and experiencing difficult losses to cancer. His resilient, humble, and selfless attitude stood out. He was a kind and charismatic man with a hard shell. Billy was his family's caregiver and rock, and will be missed by those who love him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Hubert, Mark, and Walter; and many friends, including some he served with.

Hearing the Scanner alway playing even when you had the TV on you never missed anything that was going on. I so enjoyed how you talked about your day’s at work, working for the City of Cedar Rapids was a big part of your life it helped so many people when you cleaned the roads for other’s. For the last weeks I’ve talked with Dina whom has been your true Angel she’s been looking over you as you did her growing up , she’s also been my Angel updating me being in AZ. letting me know how your day was and how she was doing herself. The Lord put you in my life and you became my Father and the best father a Daughter could ever ask for. Until you meet me at the Golden Gates, Go Rest in the Glory of God’s promises Land. I will forever hold your memories very dear in my heart. I Love you Dad. Pam
