Beverly (Nation) Behrens, 87, of Mount Vernon passed away December 26, 2018, at the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, surrounded by her family. Per her request, there will be no visitation and burial will be private. Arrangements are with Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Mount Vernon.

Beverly Jean was born March 7, 1931 in Tama County to Ernie and Vernice (Bredfeldt) Nation. The family moved to Mount Vernon in August, 1936. On August 16, 1952, she married Gordon Behrens at The First Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids; they celebrated 66 years. When Gordon was in the Army stationed at Fort Devins, Massachusetts, Bev joined him there.
She started to work at Hugh and Iva's Photo Shop as a young woman before finding her work home at Mount Vernon Bank and Trust beginning in 1958. When she retired in 1994, she was the Senior Trust Officer.
A diehard Cubs fan, Bev loved all God's creatures, including her family and her pets. She was a long term member of First Methodist Church of Mount Vernon.
Memorials in Bev's memory may be directed to the Cedar Valley Humane Society or ASPCA.

I’m so very sorry to read the news of Bev’s passing. She was a wonderful neighbor; she kept a beautiful home, and I was always impressed with both her energy (she could really handle a lawn mower!) and her love for her pets. Gordon, the two of you made a great team. My prayers are with you during this painful time.
To the Behrens family and friends please accept my deepest condolences for the loss of your loved one Bev.
