In 1951, he married Margaret Elaine MacBeth in Michigan. After a long and varied career that took him around the United States and the world over the next 45 years, Balwant and Margaret retired to the family farm in Mount Vernon. Balwant loved his family and he loved the land. He was proud of his achievements, and firmly believed in the many opportunities that this country offered. He was always quick to offer advice to anyone who asked on how to take advantage of those opportunities. Balwant was a very devoted, 40 (plus) year member of the First Federated Church, in Lisbon, Iowa. In lieu of flowers and plants, a memorial fund for Balwant has been established at the First Federated Church, 115 N. Walnut, Lisbon, Iowa 52253.

  1. To son ,David . I want to offer my sympathy on death of Balwant. He and I were business friends in the late 60’s and 70’s at Penford Products. We had the job of introducing the new sugar product for direct compression tableting. We divided the country where I took the East and He did the Midwest and West. We both had Dr. Brouillard for a boss and we had weekly conferences as we introduced the product. It was a good product and we developed a good size business for the company and it was successful for many years. Balwant was a good salesman and he had a few sayings that were peculiar to him such as Its six and half a dozen. We are the same age as I will soon be 95 also .I know he enjoyed farm life. We visited your farm several times and knew you as a boy. I currently live at Meth-Wick Community in NW Cedar Rapids. I will not get to the services as I no longer drive and have no car. I doubt if there are many that would remember Balwant at this stage. Time has been generous with us but many have passed on. Blessing on you and your family. Kenneth Kirby

  2. We want to send our condolences to the family of Balwant. He shared his garden with us. We enjoyed his sharing with us. He will be missed.
